Canadian momma's

Kbaby2016Kbaby2016 Junior Member Junior Member
Hey, are there any Canadian momma's out there and what's the process like? I'm about to embark on this journey and would like to know what obstacles I may incur. Thanks!

I'm Canadian and have ordered donor sperm for IUI, process is very simple
  • YellowknifeYellowknife Member Member
    Same.
If I'm not mistaken, there are three Canadian distributors: CanAm, Outreach and Repromed. The prices are fairly similar (some offer discounted storage but will charge you processing fees so it equals out) but customer service will differ. Depending on where you live, there will be shipping charged and mine were quite significant (I live in Yellowknife). I personally opted for Outreach, their customer service has been amazing so far.
The process is simple in terms of ordering, but I have not yet started the IUI process itself. I will have the vials shipped out about a week before insemination.
Let us know if you have more questions (not that I'm a pro or anything!!)

I ordered through Outreach as well which was through Fairfax. I'm starting IUI in May as well!

    Hey Sunshine!
    So cool!
Are you doing it through a clinic? where are you located?
whats ur plan? is it your first time? it is for me and im so worried about now timing it right!!
  • Sunshine***Sunshine*** Member Member
Yes through a clinic in Vancouver. This will be my first time/try. I have no known fertility issues so I'm hoping it will work with in 3 try's. I only purchased 4 vials. I'm late 30's so it may not work on the first try because of my age.
  • YellowknifeYellowknife Member Member
Cool, I'm also in my late thirty's.
I'm in Yellowknife so I'm doing it at the general clinic with a general practicioner (no fertility clinics here). SO no monitoring, no Ultrasounds or blood work, nothing. SO it's sort of up in the air as to what exactly I'm doing.
    Good luck!

Which donor are using? Have you received your donor sperm yet? Good luck!

    Hi,
I just wanted to join this thread. I'm looking at a donor from Fairfax, through Repromed. Anyone use any Canadian donors?? I know the list is short, but I do feel that the cost savings are significant and knowing that the donation was made without monetary gain "feels" better. But I'm undecided...

I'm turning 40 this June, no fertility issues and planning on seeing how I do with 3 vials, but don't see myself trying past 6, for financial reasons. I don't know what the stats are like either.

    Good luck to everyone!

Hi, I looked at Canadian donors through repomed however as most of the donors are Caucasian I went with Fairfax. I'm mixed race so i wanted a donor with similar skin colour to me. At 40 they usually recommend ordering 4-6 vials as I think the average is at least 4 IUI's for women over 40 not using fertility pills to increase ovulation.

I didnt realize there were people who replied to the thread! This is great!

So yes I got my first two vials (donor 4723) and got the IUIs done over the weekend. Im hoping i timed it right and just crossing my fingers that I ovulated when I was "supposed" to. I live in Yellowknife (hence my avatar!) and there are no fertility clinics here. SO im pretty much on my own. Luckily, a doc was able to do the IUI, but no u/s or b/w. just fingers crossed.

I've ordered 6 vials in total. gonna do two vials every month for three months. I'm 38. After this, I think our adventure will be over. We'll see how it goes.

Keep us posted guys! this is great! Yay Canada! lol

Hey All, I didn't realize there were replies on my thread. I've gone for my consultation and will order from a donor on Fairfax through Outreach. I still need some blood work and an ultrasound done but I should be able to be inseminated in June or July. I'm glad to hear the proces isn't too difficult. The only downside was I won a promotional thing from Fairfax of $100 of first purchase but because I was from Canada I couldn't claim it unless I was doing my insemination in Usa. Not pleased!

Boooo Kbaby! that's too bad. That 100$ helps!

I'm 15DPIUI. First Beta 41 was on Friday. Second Beta was 30 min ago. Will get the results by today...

    fingers crossed for everyone!

Hi Yellowknife, congrats!!! Wow you got a bfp on your first unassisted try! I'm 7 dpo, I can't test for another 5 days Ughhh.
  • YellowknifeYellowknife Member Member
I can't believe it either. I'm still in a bit of shock.

5 days isn't so bad! You can do it!!! (I shouldnt talk, i POAS at 11dPO - i could not wait!)

    How are you feeling?
  • Sunshine***Sunshine*** Member Member
I'm feeling good, I've had a lot of cramping today and yesterday, high temps staying consistent, and a bit a nausea last night. Did you have any symptoms leading up to when you tested?
  • YellowknifeYellowknife Member Member
    Any updates sunshine?......
  • Sunshine***Sunshine*** Member Member
Hi!! I'm on day 10 today and will probably POAS tomorrow, I don't think I can wait 4 more days ( :

  • Kbaby2016Kbaby2016 Junior Member Junior Member
Yes i'm from the prairies. Have you tested Sunshine?
  • Sunshine***Sunshine*** Member Member
Hi yes. Got a positive on 11 dpo! I've had my first 2 HCG beta blood tests and all looks good so far. I'm in B.C and this was my first IUI. I'm surprised it worked first time as I was not monitored and unmedicated, i just used OPK's. Good luck to you!!

Congrats Sunshine! I'm going to order my donor tomorrow. I have it narrowed down to two but keep flipping back and forth. I know tomorrow when I call to order I'll make the right decision for me and really ill be happy with either of my top two. I hope to get my positive in the first couple IUI's.
