Hi everyone,
Can anyone recommend children's books about single mothers by choice (using sperm donation)? I saw a few on Amazon but curious if anyone has a recommendation. Thanks.

Maria,
I have heard about the books listed on the previous post. There was also a children's book called Before you were born: my wish for a child. it is available through www.xyandme.com. It is for children age 4-12 they were written by a nurse and you can order it for your particular situation such as donor insemination, you just request one of that title. they also have books about IVF with donor sperm, donor edd/donor sperm or donor embryo. They all have the same pictures similar messages but tailored to your situation. It is something that I plan on reading to my child from the beginning. I don't want their to be secrets and I want him or her to feel comfortable with it from the start. My thought is similar to those children's books on adoption... a good choice for a bedtime story. That way my child knows from the start how very much they were wanted! There is another children's book called Our story published by donor conception network, available through www.donor-conception-network. there are three versions of this book including children conceived by sperm donation into single, married or gay couples. I hope this helps you. If you find any other good books particularly children's books please share them.

Thank you both!!!!
I have done some research too...and found a few on amazon.com (but haven't bought them so I don't know how good they are):
Why Don't I have a Daddy? by George Anne Clay
Recipes of How Babies Are Made by Carmen Martinez Jover
What Are Parents? by Kyme Fox-Lee
The Family Book by Todd Parr
Thank you again...I"ll check out the books you both listed as well! -
I have a kindle and get a sample of most of the books I'm looking to purchase. There's usually enough in the sample to let me know whether or not I want to purchase the book. the other option might be to check them out from the library that way you don't have the expense for a book you didn't like! Good luck!

That's a great idea. Thank you!

Kittykat,
Just thought I would bring this post forward. There are a lot of books listed on this site. I have to admit that I have not read any but I am confident in my decision and have never had any doubts. I will be getting the childrens books once my been is there and thriving. I plan on reaeing the book to my bean in and out of utero!
Good luck too you......lots of baby dust. There are a few of us that have started this journey after getting news from the doc or having surgery. We each have our own story! You can catch up in some of the other psots if you want. Some of my story is under anyone thinking about injectibles. The women on this forum can be a HUGE source of support. We all try to keep each other in good spirits!

hi-not specifically for single moms, but anyone who has used donor sperm...there are books out there to explain to young children about kids with disabilities, adoption, 2 moms etc, but no way to explain to them how they have brothers/sisters that are so because of the same donor...its playful, age appropriate, simple, warm...this book, and my reasons for writing it, I hold dear to my heart...Family Is Everything!
"Meeting My Brother" is a heartwarming, one of a kind children's book about donor conceived siblings meeting and becoming family...

Get what makes a baby.
I have no idea why no one recommends this esp for "alternative" families.
It goes through how a baby is made with sperm and egg and a uterus. It allows you to insert your own parts. For my son I talk about how he came to the world via c-section; how the sperm came from a nice man and mommy picked it up.
