How'd you pick?

My biggest thing is I want the donor to have blue eyes (DH and I both have them) and I'd like the donor to look similar to my DH. Did you pick someone with the same blood type? Same hobbies, etc?

My husband and I picked based primarily on looks. We needed a CMV negative donor so that was the first factor, but after that we went on physical. Originally we said we only wanted a donor with adult photos, but we ended up stumbling one with a physocal description that was spot on. WE checked the childhood photo just out of curiosity and that was really convincing so when we looked at his silhouette and it was scary close. We were sold. I face matched him just to see and he popped up as high so that was just another point in his favor.

How long have you been looking?

We've just been periodically looking right now, we're going to start hardcore in a couple weeks. What is CMV (or whatever it's called).

We periodically looked for a long time too, it was a really hard process for me.

CMV is a virus that most adults have been exposed to in their lifetimes, it produces mild cold or flu like symptoms. It's no big deal normally but if you are like me and have never been exposed and you use a donor that is positive you run the risk of having serious medical problems in your baby (seizures, deafness, mental retardation, etc). It's really shocking to me that more people on these forums have never been tested and don't know about it because my doctor at Shady Grove was VERY adamant about me picking a negative donor.
