Just starting out!

My partner and I are going to our first appointment on March 31. I'm 33 with no known fertility problems other than having only one ovary. My periods are super regular and I'm not anticipating any problems but am nervous about the doctor will say. I was hoping to connect with others who are in the beginning stages of the process. I really have no idea what to expect and am trying to decide on a donor. I'm still debating on anonymous vs. willing to be known too. Anyways, I'm hoping I'm not alone out there and would love to hear about how the process is going for others.

    Hi krojgo,
My wife and I are in the beginning stages as well... at the saving stage not even the appointment stage. We've just developed our plan and have started looking at donors. I've been reading online and in forums for several years now trying to understand everything I could about the process and tips for selecting donors. And yet it seems brand new and so nerve wracking now that we're actually beginning the process!

    Best of luck to you!

Hi there. My wife and I had our first appt yesterday at Dominion and saw Dr Dimattina and he is great. Mainly went to him because i work for an obgyn who is really good friends with him. He was great! but he is out of my network so i scheduled an appt at Shady Grove for the 8th and I am so excited because they are in my network so that will save us a boat load of money. The whole trying to choose a donor thing is very intimidating and overwhelming!

Hi there! We are in the beginning stages as well! My wife and I just had our first unmedicated IUI on Wednesday. We have been tracking her cycles for 4 months, and she is pretty regular. I think we were 2 days too early, despite our best efforts. We went 12 hours after positive opk because sometimes she has a short LH surge.. Then didn't end up ovulating until yesterday according to temps :( It feels like there is just so much information that we have to keep track of, and the timing of everything is very nerve wrecking! It is nice to have others to talk to that are going through the same situations. Does everyone use a fertility specialist? Or just regular ob-gyn?

Hi, I'm a single mom TTC. It can be nerve racking but take it day by day. I use a fertility specialist who is very good! At my first appt. we did a sonogram and found a fibroid. That was in Feb. I had to skip March due to timing but I did use OPK's as a trial run. April will be my first medicated IUI. Finger crossed and best if luck to you all!

    Hello All,
I'm at the saving stage. My insurance does not cover treatments as I am single. The news initially broke my heart, because I wasn't expecting it, and I had no money saved. However it's been a few months now and I'm aggressively saving money. I hope to start treatments in June/July.
I pray for everyone's success! It's great to have this forum. Thank you for listening.
    Ciao

I'm just starting as well. I have been donor searching and it is so difficult. I'm going to go with graduate cuz my child might want to know who the donor was one day. This way it will be his or her decision. I'm nervous but hope my prayers will b r answered. I'm just waiting for my period to start around April 6th. Then hopefully my levels will be ready. I'm going straight to ivf and not iui. I'm knocking on 41 and don't want my window to pass me by. I wish all of us the best of luck.

Best of luck bookie2780! We thought our timing was off but we actually just got our bfp on 14 dpo! We are still in shock. Biggest thing we learned is that the opks are the biggest help, temps can be very misleading!

My wife and I are just starting out as well. We went through the fertility testing almost a year ago and have been saving and looking for the right donor. Now we're ready and just waiting for our donor to become available again. Hoping to start my first iui in the next few months!

Our two week wait just started. 5th IUI for our second child, so we probably don't fit into the "just starting out category." Good luck to everyone! And congrats to Amarika!

This isn't "Just Starting Out", but I might be able to help some of you who are....My wife and I began this journey about 4.5 years ago. We started looking at donors and found a great one here at Fairfax. My wife carried our first. We went through a fertility clinic. The 1st attempt was an unmedicated IUI 24hrs after her surge. It didn't work. Attempt #2 was an IUI with trigger shot. I was worried that she would ovulate before administering the trigger shot and the IUI (36 hrs later) would be too late, but it worked!! Our beautiful daughter will be 4 in a few months. We knew that we wanted to have at least 2 kids, and we wanted them close. (Since we know many same sex couples who have tried for months to conceive, we thought we would try asap.) When our DD was 4 months old I tried an unmedicated IUI to carry our second child. My OB/Gyn agreed to do an IUI insemination for us. I had the specimen shipped to our house and we met our Ob on Sunday morning at her office for the IUI. Lucky us, I got pregnant on the 1st try! Our second daughter is almost 3. A couple of things....I was pretty neurotic about detecting my LH surge. I tracked for a few months prior and when the day approached I peed on a stick every time I had to go. (I didn't want to miss it!) I also noticed that I detected my surge about 12 hrs earlier using a good Ovulation Predictor LH Test (First Response and Clear Blue) than when I used the ones I bought in bulk on the internet. 4 years later...here we are again trying for baby #3.
Good luck to all of you! Kids are amazing & so worth the time and energy put into trying to conceive this way!
I'm happy to help with any questions...
