Hello. My fiancé and myself are just starting out and are narrowing down donors. Since we are a same sex couple and VA doesn't recognize gay marriage we aren't on each other's insurance. Has anyone ran across this ? and how much is it running for the doctors visit for a IUI or ici insemination. Also has anyone ran across same sex couple adoption for non carrying partners that isn't recognized in the state? thanks!

Hi Loxna, my partner and I are just starting out as well. We went through the testing process and expect to start trying to conceive this month. We are married in the state of New York but live in PA, where it is not recognized. Despite the fact that it is not recognized, both of our employers offer same sex partners on our health insurance, but we chose to stay on separate insurance because it just so happened to be more affordable that way. Anyway, my health insurance does not cover any portion of the process. We've found that our general doctor visits with the fertility specialist is $200. Bloodwork for testing for LH surge was about $75 and a sonohysterogram was about $500 (this was to determine if the tubes are open). I believe the IUI will be about $200 but I am not certain yet. In PA, my partner will be able to adopt (it is called Second Parent Adoption here) once the baby is born. Good luck! I am also interested if anyone else has any input.Hello.
