Twin preg donors?? Please help!

I am new to the forum as well as the donor search. I am wondering if there is a way to find out about donors who have produced twin pregnancies. Is it listed anywhere on their profiles? Can I call and ask about twin pregnancy donors and will they tell me? I have had 4 natural pregnancies with the hubby, delivered 1 baby girl who passed away at 2.5 months, and had 3 miscarriages, all within an 8 year span. We found out with our daughter we carry a genetic disorder, and we are confirmed positive for this on all 3 miscarriages. I can get preg with a donor, but would love to do 1 preg with hopeful twins so I can stop attempting to have a family, I am 33 and tired of hoping. Any ideas and thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

Dear bellasmom1121,
I am so sorry for your terrible losses. As you are aware, using donor sperm will reduce the risks. It would be worth contacting the genetic counselor (Suzanne Seitz at 800-338-8407) to see if the donor can be tested for the same genetic disease you carry. On the twin issue, Fairfax Cryobank does not list when a donor produces a twin pregnancy. Twins that are fraternal are the result of more than one egg being ovualated at the time of the insemination or more than one embryo transferred during IVF. You can increase your chance for twins by taking fertility meds but obviously that must be carefully monitored. Identical twins are random. Twin pregnancies also are more likely to have complications and birth defects than single gestation pregnancies. So it would be wise to discuss this over with your doctor beforehand. -
Thanks for the info. Yes, your facility tests donors for carrier status of this genetic disorder, so we have been keeping an eye on that also.

I believe it is the woman and fertility drug usage that determines twins. And I believe it is only identical twins that are genetic. I am the mom of twins and had to use clomid the first time around which resulted in twins. This time we chose a longer route but no fertility meds to reduce the chance of twins (once was enough for me lol) now we are pregnant with baby number 3, and just baby number three! I would talk with doctor. Best of luck!!

Thank you. After doing a lot of reading, I am coming to the conclusion that clomid has a lot to do with twin pregnancies. I haven't had issues getting pregnant the first time trying each time, so I doubt my doc would agree to clomid for twins.
