Fairfax vs. California Cryobank (issues with counts)

Hey Everyone...
We did our first IUI with using donor 4417. It didn't work and may be due to the count being decreased by it being washed on an IUI sample. According to Fairfax, the doctor should not be washing after thaw as it was already washed. Now, because of this happening, we are wondering if we should still use fairfax (maybe the problem is not them) or another bank. Our dr stated that in the future we should use ICI vials as they are unwashed, less expensive and more to them.
Really confused!

Hi ahayden, not sure about the procedures of California Cryobank, but I have to agree with your dr. if they are going to wash the sperm before the IUI you should get the ICI vials as they are unwashed.

Hi Txgrl 74...thanks for the suggestion. I will do that. Have you done it with a ICI sample? Where are you at in your process?

Here is a great blog "What's in my vial of donor semen?" that may be of use to you as you decide what prep type to use.

Hi Ahayden, I have had 5 IUI's. My doctor doesn't wash the sperm and I get the IUI vials, for the reasons above. My doctor said they wouldn't use and ICI vial because it's unwashed and I guess they don't wash sperm. I am now moving on to IVF. I go in for my baseline ultrasound on 3/5 and then start medications on 3/8 if the ultrasound goes well. My egg retrieval would then be around the 20th they said. They want to freeze all the embroyos and implant in April. So I won't be in the tww for a while but at least I'm in the process.

Ahayden, it sounds like your Drs office needs to be held responsible. They did not pay attention to the prep type you had sent over. They should have never washed an iui sample. That is ready to go Intra Uterine hence the name IUI. What was their excuse for washing an IUI sample?

My clinic tells you up front that they always wash the sperm and suggest ICI.
