New and first IUI next week

jen217jen217 Junior Member Junior Member
I am new to this and do not recognize any of the abbr terms used in the forum. clueless basically. I just show up for the ultrasounds and blood tests and they tell me everything looks good. No meds. Just bought 3 vials and starting first IUI next friday. After reading many posts sounds like this takes a few tries before results? I only made this decision very recently and have not tried to get pregnant in the past so I have no idea how this will go. I have a very small window to make this happen so its now or never.

I'm newish to this also. Had a ton of tests before I was cleared to progress. A few issues but working through them. My IUI for Aug was cancelled b/c the clomid didn't really work for me. Upping the dose for Sept cycle and trying again. How's it going for everyone else?

well I did 3 IUI's and no pregnancies...so I switched fertility doctors and going for IVF now. Have 2 more tests this week (saline sonogram and HSG test) and planning for October. Just picked up the syringes and OMG not sure how Im going to do these shots on my own, but i guess thats part of the deal. I am going through this on my own and havent shared this info with anyone other than mother and sister, so not that easy. work keeps me busy enough to not get too stressed out. how is everyone elses journey going?

I just wanted to let everybody know that if you need somebody to talk to, I'm here. With my son, we did ONE IUI and were successful on the first try. Since then, we've tried 6 IUI's and I'm still not pregnant. It's crazy how it can work the first time with no issues (no medication either) and I've tried various medications since and no luck. $13K later, I want my money back (lol). Anyway, jen217 I'm glad you're going straight to IVF. I wish you all the best of luck!

Hi everyone! My first IUI in July didn't work. Husband and I decided to combine 2 IUI ART vials (our donor didnt have regular vials), and count was good but motility was low. Then I skipped August because i wanted to repeat HSG to make sure my tubes are still patent. Now are are planning to try with a different donor in September. I dont want to waste my time with Clomid anymore and will ask for combo cycle of letrozole with gonal-f. Hope that my RE will be on board with that. Looking for September cycle buddies.

Jen217: You can do it! Just think ENDGOAL: BABYYYYY!!! Giving yourself injections really isn't that awful. I'm a nurse and yes I already knew HOW but giving YOURSELF one is different....but it will become old hat real quick. I had my very first IUI on 8/27 and my beta is in the morning. Eeeeek!! I have no fertility issues...just single and 39. I know how you feel about work keeping you busy and doing this on your own. I'm really only nervous now cuz it's tomorrow. I used Clomid 100 and Ovidrel trigger and then Progesterone suppositories once daily starting 3dpiu. Did you do all that with your IUIs as well? Sorry so many Qs! I'm a newbie! October will be here soon. Are you excited? Nervous? Both?!? Keep us posted!! :))

thanks all for the encouragement! just got cleared today for IVF so looks like next month. the shots were a lot easier after I watched a few youtube videos to see how others did it and now its a breeze. aggienurse: I only did ovidrel for IUI's, but the doctor I previously was with was not great. I wasted 5 months but happy I'm with this new doctor. And I am single and older then you so i get it! It's great to hear everyones updates!

That's wonderful jen217!!! You will have to keep us posted. Are you using the same donor?? My test was negative so I'm having IUI #2 tomorrow morning. Did the same meds this round...my labs, endometrial thickness, and mature follicle number this time are even better. I don't know how many times I can handle everything being perfect and it not happening!! I swear this is just so expensive. I saw my donor was low and called and all that was left were 6 IUI vials. I got scared and bought 2 more. So now I have four attempts left counting tomorrow. May I ask is your IVF covered by your insurance at all? I have ZERO coverage. I guess there are those health loans/lines of credit.... :-|

aggienurse: I am using the same donor as his #'s are great..its me that is the issue. I did 3 IUI's ($495 each attempt) and now moving to IVF. I have no insurance coverage for the treatments or the meds. I am using funds from my savings that I am fortunate to have, however, i just applied for a credit card that gives cash back and has great upfront offer and 9 months 0% interest, so i will using it, but I do have the funds to pay it off. Working hard is what i focused on forever and that's why i here now..late in life with no children. I can understand the financial hardship, bas my sister and her husband are going through the same process and they do not have the funds saved for this. There are definitely programs for this through fertility offices/hospitals for sure. Good luck with your next round...you will get there!! keep us posted
