IUI - 1 or 2 vials?

I am reading all about Intrauterine Insemination and ovulation and it seems that most recommend that you use 2 vials each ovulation. One the first evening when your OPK is positive, and a second the next 12-24 hours. Is this what most people do? Or do you just use 1 vial? I feel like this could get very expensive very quick.

I would love to hear what you have done.

I'm about to start soon and I only plan on one vial. My doctor and I never discussed using 2 vials, but I figured with all the medical assistance it's worth it to try with just 1. But I agree, 2 vials would add up really quickly. It all adds up pretty quickly. :)

I purchased 2 IUI vials. My clinic suggests purchasing 2 in case the first trial doesn't work. If you purchase the IUI ART vials you may need to use both vials for one cycle due to the low amount of sperm in them. The regular IUI vials have enough. My doctor told me that some people do use 2 IUI vials on one try to increases their chances but that is for those who can afford that.
Fortunately, mine worked on the first try so I have an extra vial to sell or use for a sibling.

We found that the donors we liked sold out quickly and went with the 'more the better' type attitude. We waited for a sale and purchased as many as we could.
While my IUI worked on the first try, it's nice to know that we have more vials for potential siblings when my wife carries the next time.
You don't have to use more than one vial to be successful, and your doctor should know the best time, so one should be enough if it will work this round.

I bought I think 4 of one donor first, then after two IUIs my doctor said the sperm didn't wash well at all and I should switch donors. Since the guarantee for sperm counts is only PRE-washing, I was out of luck there. Also I had unfortunately had them all sent to my RE and couldn't sell them back. After that I only bought one vial first until ensuring the sperm washed well, then I bought more. I am no RE but both of mine only did 1 IUI and said that 2 didn't raise chances and back to back would be just throwing money away.
