I'm not sure how this works

I'd like to know how to go about this whole sperm donor thing. I literally want a baby without a "babydaddy" (I already have an 8 year old too).
No fertility issues that I'm aware of. I've been on Mirena since Oct '09 and have had it checked periodically (replaced in Jan '15), no complications seen thus far with that.

I'm sure some people figure out how to inseminate themselves and purchase sperm from a sperm bank. However, I think most people rely on a medical professional to help them achieve pregnancy. Many start with finding an fertility clinic (sometimes you need a referral from your personal physician). Usually they conduct some kind of workup to make sure you don't have a problem (closed fallopian tubes for example). Then usually you enter the cycle monitoring where they will daily during your period test your blood and do a vaginal ultrasound to see how your follicles are developing. Usually when the right day arrives (and you've ordered your sperm), the clinic will have you come in and they do the intrauterine insemination (which means that they can get closer than if you 'turkey baster' yourself). Then you have your normal two week wait to see if you are pregnant etc.
they may suggest certain drugs if you need to ovulate more (to up your chances of pregnancy). and of course many people then turn to IVF depending on age and other factors.
In any event, you should google for a fertility clinic in your area of the country, and they likely have information on their website on the various options.
good luck!
