Staying Sane?? First Time IUI

TrishaTrisha Junior Member Junior Member
My wife and I are scheduled to start our first IUI round this month. I am waiting for my cycle to start and I don't think I can remember a time when I was this excited/anxious to start. I have spent a lot of time on forums, doing research, and talking with our doctor to make sure I know what to expect. I realized I was making myself a bit nutty and have been trying harder to just "go with the flow" :) How do you keep the nerves at bay? We are wanting this child so badly and the success rate is just 15% per cycle. I am 32 and will be carrying. All my blood work, ultrasounds, etc show I am fertile with no presenting issues; however, I have never tried to conceive and fear the pregnancy will not take. I would love to hear from you all to hear words of encouragement, tips, or suggestions to help me relax internally. It's such an incredible experience and I could not have a better partner by my side- we are always hoping for the best!

Hey there! My wife & I are also TTC currently for the first time. I'm 30 and will be carrying, I have no known fertility issues either after bloodwork etc and just had 2 vials delivered to the specialist thia week hoping for a positive OPK tomorrow to try an IUI on Sunday! I'm also overly anxious, but try to remember the worst that can happen at this stage is that it doesn't take and we go on and keep trying. Take it 1 day at a time :) I can't believe the day is almost here already Good luck!!

Hey tafreeze! Hope you've figured out some relaxation strategies! I can't offer much as my wife & I just had our first IUI today so I'm trying to keep my nerves at bay by just telling myself "I've done everything they told me to, there's nothing else to do!" And just take some deep breaths. Maybe we can keep up on this journey together? It's hard because I've not told anyone except 1 sister yesterday and though she's excited she just doesn't understand the nerves! Good luck this month!!

He there mrsholt2017! You already went through your IUI?! This is wonderful news. I hope it went well, you are feeling great, and in just a week, you are going to get a positive test! Keeping it together is very difficult, but worth it. We went in this morning for our Clomid follow-up. We are looking fantastic and will be doing our IUI either Sunday or Monday. My wife and I are ecstatic! We both have a great feeling about it. Everything has gone so smoothly, it's unreal. But, we do know it's just a 15% success rate.
How are you feeling?? You have about one more week left to go! I would love to keep up with you guys. I know it's hard to keep it to yourself...you guys have done a wonderful job about that. My wife and I said we would and then once we told one person, it was impossible to keep to ourselves. I really hope you are feeling good and you get a positive test result!!

The first IUI didn't work :( but that's okay, onto the next cycle! I went in for an HSG today to make sure my tubes were open and all was good. The Dr. spotted an almost 19 mm follicle already so I'm hoping I ovulate again in the next few days. Unfortuneately we only budgeted for 2 IUI cycles this year so this will be the last one until next year most likely.

I hope things are going well for you and your wife!! I would love an update!

I am SO TERRIBLY sorry to hear that it didn't take. Your odds are good for this second round! I never had a chance to ask if you were doing your IUI medicated or natural. We opted for medicated because we wanted to give ourselves the highest chance possible, but it is definitely not cheap! 19 mm is already mature, so you are looking good, lady! I really want to stay posted on your journey. You can always feel free to message me on the inbox. I know how frustrating this whole process is.

We had our first IUI on Sunday, February 29. The two week wait was brutal and I will admit- I struggled so much. It was nine days after our procedure that I had a moment of superhuman smell sensitivity. I bought a pregnancy test and took it that same day on my lunch break. It was negative and I was not surprised. I didn't believe we would be successful on the first round. The next day, my wife convinced me to take the last test after dinner "just to be sure". I did but we expected a BFN. We kept cleaning the kitchen and enjoying our evening. I casually looked over, expecting to see the same response and saw POSTIVE +. She cried and I just stood there in shock. We did confirm this Monday that we are pregnant and we did more blood work today.

I have no idea how we were fortunate enough to be successful on the first time because I know we didn't do anything special to make this happen. I am going to cross every finger and toe I have for you guys. I know it can happen. If it happened for us, I know it WILL happen for you!

My wife and I got pregnant on the 4th try. It can be frustrating and of course expensive, however, we have a healthy, beautiful baby girl born 10-3-17. We are starting on our second child later this year.
