38 y/o Trying IUI This Month - Anyone Else My Age Having Sucesss?

Hi, my partner and I are finally trying for a baby. We've been together 5 years and are finally in a position to be able to actually buy the sperm (so expensive!!) and pay for IUI. I'm a little worried because the doctor's office says there's only a 10% chance of sucess, but I'm thinking that number might be off because most people they treat have fertility issues to start with. My only issue is that I'm gay.
Are any of you around my age? How many rounds did it take?
Thanks!

Hi BandAMoms2B,
To answer your question, this process is very unpredictable (even if you have 0 fertility issues), and you really have to take it as you go.
When I first began I was extremely optimistic - I had quite a few friends who were 37+ who had tried IUI and gotten pregnant very early on, and my my mother and sisters were seemingly very fertile. However, after 4 rounds of medicated IUIs (plus a break when I developed a cyst from the Clomid), I began to have my doubts. As a note, it's not 100% about your age either. My wife was trying simultaneously, and she was 33, and had no luck either after 4 rounds of IUI (all medicated). For the two of us, we ultimately decided after 8 rounds between us, and paying for both the sperm & IUIs out of pocket, it made more sense for us to move towards IVF which gave us improved odds. Honestly, even that process proved unpredictable. My wife and I did dual egg retrievals with PGS testing - that round I ended up with 3 healthy embryos and my wife with 0. I went on to get pregnant my second IVF transfer, using my last two embryos, and my wife did a second egg retrieval, this time getting 6! healthy embryos.
The best thing to do is relax the best you can and know that beyond living a generally healthy lifestyle, it's difficult to predict the outcome. I hope you're on the end that the first IUIs fall in your favorBandAMoms2B wrote: »Hi, my partner and I are finally trying for a baby. My wife and I started the process in October of 2014, three months before we got married. I was 39. The clinic was very optimistic. Using donor #2879, I had 5 unsuccessful IUIs, and one unsuccessful IVF (18 follicles resulting in 1 viable embryo). We switched to donor #2873, and did another IVF (15 follicles resulting in 1 viable embryo), and our son was born March of 2017. I was 41. The pregnancy was beautifully textbook. SO WORTH IT.

My husband and I tried when I was 38 and we had success with IUI round 1 using donor 2873 as well!
