SMBC rookie questions

SinglemeSingleme Junior Member Junior Member
Hi,

from nj, thought about being a SMBC for three years and I gave myself a chance to meet "the one" both relationship failed. Both never wanted kids(wasted time). At 37, finally doing things for myself and having the kid i have always work and prep my life for.

Is there any advice on IUI procedure?
Do you think one membership in one sperm bank is enough or should i join two?
Websites i should join to be with other women in my situation?

any advise will help. Thank you!! :D

Hi there! There are lots of Facebook groups you can join! Just search for Single Mother's By Choice. There are also some for TTC (trying to conceive) that you may enjoy. We're a pretty supportive bunch, especially on FB!

I'm an SMBC of a daughter who just turned 1 this month! It's been so incredible so far - you won't regret it!

Great choice! I don’t think you need to join multiple sperm banks unless you aren’t finding what you’re looking for. I like Fairfax for the adult photos but I was looking for commonly available attributes. But maybe you want something else or more concerned with potential number of siblings.

My only advice on IUI is to not spend too much time down that route. The stats are pretty low for success. But yes it is possible so it doesn’t hurt to give it a go.

Definitely join Single Mother’s by Choice. You’ll have a group of women all in the same stage as you. You’ll learn a lot about various procedures, questions to ask your doc.

The best advice is start working with a fertility clinic from the beginning. A gynecologist can do an IUI but if you have any challenges then you’ll have to go through all the start up all over again, testing all over again...

    Good luck.

    Hi New Jersey!
I'm 36 and just started trying IUI's too, in my two week wait right now.

My advice is to google the sperm banks for "codes" as there are often some promotional codes to use that you don't have to pay for access for a couple of months. I have an account at Cali cryo and Fairfax and got up to level 2 for both banks for free by looking for codes to use. They make their money on the purchase of the vials so I think the member access is a bonus and that's why there's so many codes floating around. Let me know if you need any help and i can send you a couple! I don't think one sperm bank is enough but I do know the best ones are Fairfax and Cali. I would suggest maybe waiting to look for donors until you are closer to doing a procedure, some races and physical combinations sell out faster than others and you don't want to be heart broken when your first choice sells out because you aren't ready. Then again you also should be careful before buying the first guy until you get your blood tests and genetic tests done (if you choose to) to make sure there won't be any risks.

My advice is to be careful of filling your head with worries and suggestions from a bunch of people because it work you up into a frenzy. It's better to go in this, and find way to de-stress as you wait.

I like the app "baby center" as it gives advice but also has a forum. I like that it's on my phone and if I want to look up something quickly it's right there.
