Timing

If I remember correctly, I don't think our doctor (nurse, actually) would schedule us to come in until the next day following the positive surge. We were told that it was an indicator of the spike therefore within 24 hrs was fine. I questioned that [same day vs waiting hours until the next day] also but was kinda poo-pooed by another nurse in the office for even questioning their 20+ yrs experience. That's another story! Anyway, we went in next day, as long as the positive surge didn't happen on the weekend or holiday. That did happen on I think at least 2 times, so we had to wait until the next month. That was a bummer! Third IUI over a 6 month span did the trick. (that, or the 3rd time happened on Valentine's Day made the difference!!). Our son will be 2 on Nov 1st.
Good luck to you! -
On the day of my surge I typically try to get an appointment but usually in the afternoon. The office I visit would prefer to have me come in the day of and the next day but at approx $400 a vial...we typically can only afford to go the one day. I'm on my 7 month (3rd donor) with no success so maybe I will wait till the day after my surge. I've switched donors some for my own reasons and others because they seem to run out too fast. It's been hard to keep the spirits up but trying my best! Good luck to everyone!!

I tested for my surge at 11am on Saturday morning, August 7th. I called my doctor and we set my IUI appointment for the next morning at 8:30am. I've been aware of my ovulation 'pain' for years (I'm 35), and felt it at about 4:30pm that afternoon. I am now 6+ weeks pregnant.
I had just assumed that the 'surge' meant a surge of hormone which would indicate our egg is DUE to be released within the next 24 hours. I also then assumed that the pain (like a slight gassy-tummy pain for about 20-30 minutes) which always came the next day was my egg being released (and typically this would happen late on day 12 of my 26/27 day cycle). Here's hoping my assumptions help you time your IUI's for success !! -
My doctor uses a "folical scan" technique where on day 12 or so of my cycle he orders an internal ultrasound. If there are 19mm or larger folicals, we do the iui the next day. It's been pretty effective so far, so I would ask if anyone near you is using that process.

We've always done IUIs two days in a row - the day of the surge and then the following day. When I got pregnant with my son, it was on our 5th try (1st try with that donor). We just started trying again, and that's what we're doing this time around, too.
Good luck! -
We went for the original visit. Then at a certian point she took fertility drugs for 5 days. After that she gave herself a shot, and then the next day we went in for insemination.
