My wife and I (yes, same-sex couple) have been together for 12 years and always wanted children. Since we live in Florida where there has been a BAN on gay adoption for 33 years, we looked for other options. I wanted to carry and she did not. How easy is that? Now we just needed to get sperm... Artificial Insemination was the best choice.
We tried the first donor 3 times and it did not take. Then we tried a second donor 3 times, no luck. The Fertility clinic in Boca that I was going to said the sperm count was very low. They also continued giving me progesterone supplements (saying mine was too low). After 1 year and over $15,000, we decided to try a different clinic- just to shake things up.
With Donor #3, no fertility drugs (ie. progesterone supp), and a new clinic ... BOOM preggo 1st try. Our son was born in 2006 and he was so beautiful, healthy, and perfect! We froze donor #3 and tried for a second baby in early 2009. Clinic #2, donor #3 and ONE TRY again - preggo! I had another perfect boy in Nov 2009.
We couldn't be happier with our boys. Both walked at 9 months, both are very funny, outgoing , loving kids.
It doesn't matter how you get your family. The process may not always be easy, but LOVE defines a family and I wish everyone much luck and patience.
Everything happens for a reason - In the end, you'll figure out that reason.
