Health Issues

edited 2011 21 in Social Groups
Does your child(ren) have any health concerns? Curious to see if there might be any consistency.

My DD has frequent bronchitis/pneumonia thru age 2.5. She was hospitalized once, every cold she got turned into chest congestion, was on a nebulizer for awhile to prevent any further respiratory issues. She's outgrown most of it now. Anyone's child have anything similar?

We haven't experienced anything yet. Our daughter has had a few colds and the flu but nothing major.
She doesn't have any allergies that we know of and no respiratory problems.
  • We also have had no real health issues. Our daughter did have several ear infections her 1st winter, but she outgrew them and there were no real side effects.

  • Although this is by no means a health issue, I do have a question about your children's pinkie fingers!

Both of our daughter's pinkie fingers curve in. When her hand is in a fist, you don't notice it at all, but if she shows you her hand in the sense of "how many fingers is 5?" you can clearly see the pinkie curves dramatically towards the other fingers.

The day she was born our midwife noticed and told us that that particular trait is 100% genetic. One parent MUST have the trait in order for the child to have it. Since my partner doesn't have it (nor does anyone in her family), I can only assume it's a trait from the donor.

    Is she the only one?

Interesting question Lori. I'll have to check that - I've never noticed it.
On a similar vein, can your girls curl their toungues? Because I'm pretty sure Miss K can't but I can. And that's genetic too.
You'd think they'd put stuff like that on the profiles ;)
  • E does have that pinky trait...but it's a trait from me and my dad's side of the family as well.

I checked the pinkie thing and K's don't curve. But strangely enough, mine kind of do :)

I have another weird, non-medical thing to check.
Can your children curl their tounges? It's a genetic thing and my whole family can but Miss K doesn't seem to be able to. I can only assume the donor can't and was curious if your wee ones can.

  • My kids have been fairly healthy. Far less sickness than I see in other kids, so that's been good. We had our first case of strep throat just a couple months ago, and I thought that was pretty good to make it 6 years.
My daughter was diagnosed with autism a couple years ago. She's very high functioning and at this point seems like most any other kid to me. Her temper is a little hotter than some and she does have problems sleeping, but she has a very busy social life and she is top in her class. She is incredibly amazing! I had the school district check out my son to make sure I wasn't missing anything, and they have no concerns with him.
I haven't noticed their pinkie fingers curving or if they can curl their tongues, but I'll have to test them later (they're sleeping now).
