Nature vs. Nurture

edited 2011 18 in Social Groups
As someone who has always been a bit science minded I tend to believe things are a combination of nature and nurture. Shades of grey, not black or white. I think nuture might bring out part of nature in different ways. So I'm curious.....are things are daughters have in common that may have definitely come from nature?

For example, science has shown that the age babies start to get their teeth is linked to heredity (unlike some other growth milestones). So when did your little one get her first tooth? My daughter got her first tooth at 4 months.

What about first steps? Her first were at 11 months

What was her first word (this has to be nurture but I'm curious)? She is obsessed with "bye-bye"

  • This is all a good point. Our daughter did have her 1st tooth at 4m's old too, was walking @ 10m old, and her 1st words were cheese and shoes. ;) Both which are an obession of hers...and maybe mine too. lol
Milan is a chatterbox, but is not putting any sentences (small) ones together. She loves her books and wearing her fav accesories ie; sunglasses and hats. It's too funny to watch because she is so into it...this is all forsure her nature...it's just who she is. ;)
I'm curious to know other similarties!
  • My little one loves sunglasses too! She thinks wearing mine is hilarious and is actually pretty good about wearing her own.

Cheese and Shoes - that's funny! In my house cheese doesn't last long, that's for sure. When out to dinner I once ordered my daughter a side of Gorgonzola (we were at fondue place). Everyone looked at me and wondered why I didn't just get her shredded cheddar. Naw...my girl knows the good stuff ;-)
  • Okay seriously! Our daughter LOVES Gorgonzola and is a huge fan of Gouda too! What's not to love though...cheese is a fav of mine too! It's amazing... :)

Our little on got her first tooth at 6 months, walked at 9 months and her first word was hi. She is talking pretty good these days, has some sentences down for the most part.

Cheese and shoes are a hit here. She has way more shoes then I have had in my entire life, however shes not a big fan of keeping them on for long. She also much prefers to wear our shoes. Cheese doesnt last long here either. When she says she wants food its always cheese. She eats so much cheese it almost makes me wanna puke, im not a cheese person and watching her eat the sliced cheese makes my stomech turn.
