How many IUIs?

Both my partner and I never had the testing done. We opted to skip them. She took one try I took 2 tries. We both used the same sperm. THe result was two girls.
  • Thanks for the reply. You were very lucky!
  • It took me about 6 times, I did have a healthy baby boy!! It was hard because I wanted it to work the first time, but he was very much worth the wait.
  • It took us 2 IUIs. We did them both at home. We were also pretty lucky. However, I did start working on my fertility pretty hardcore about 6 months before trying. I work with infertility and pregnancy so I thought it was very important to give myself every advantage I knew about. I may have been the most fertile person alive but I didn't want to risk it with so much money on the line. And as I found out emotional investment! Good luck. I firmly believe that it came down to timing. We did an IUI the first time when our dr. could make it on that day. It was really early morning before her regular work day. The second IUI we did about 14 hours later than we would have the month before, and it took (about 10:30pm). (I am very regular. I surge the same time on the same day in my cycle) With the second IUI, my cervix was noticably riper than with the first! If we hadn't had the flexibility for the second it may have not worked out.
  • Our first (a son) was conceived on the third try. First was successful, but I had a miscarriage, the second was unsuccessful, and the third resulted in him. Our second (a girl) was conceived on the first try. We didn't use any meds and went in for IUI on the morning following a positive OPK. Good luck!
  • We got pregnant on the 2nd try using IUI adminstered by a doc. The only meds I took were Femara, on the 2nd try. The first was natural with no meds. I am now in my 2nd trimester and so far so good. Good luck!

I got pregnant the first try. I did a double IUI (one IUI on one morning then another the next morning).
  • The first time around we used clomid and got pregnant on the first try resulting in our awesome daughter. The second time around we got pregnant on the second try also using clomid. We are about 10 weeks pregnant and very excitied.
  • My partner did 8-10 (lost count) IUI's with two different donors. We switched to IVF and a third donor and got our BFP. She is currently 21 weeks pregnant with twins. We couldn't be happier. I planned to TTC the second baby, but now that it's twins, we may not have more. GL to you!
  • It took me 6 tries. The first 4 were with ob/gyn doc using clomid without any luck. Switched docs to an RE at first docs recommendation got pregnant with twins on second attempt. We tried 3 different donors. RE doc increased metforman dosage, changed clomid days from day 5 start to day 3 start and added baby asprin. Incidently I only used one iui per attempt with RE but was using back to back IUI with ob/gyn. I guess having a doc with a little more knowledge made the difference.
  • Thanks so much for all the replies. It's heartening to see success stories. I was beginning to wonder if it was hopeless!

  • We tried 8 unsuccessful IUIs (4 without medication, 4 with clomid), before switching to IVF. First round of IVF was unsuccessful. The second, using our last two embryos, resulted in our perfect son. It was a long, emotionally grueling process that drove both my wife and I into counseling -- but our son is totally worth it, and now we're about to start trying for #2. Hopefully I will get pregnant more quickly than my wife did (though of course that may raise its own issues!)
  • My partner and I did four rounds of iui. Our first cycle was all natural and we had no luck. Our second and third round we used clomid and still had no luck. Our fourth round my RE had me try follistim and femara and we had success! We had twins a beautiful boy and girl!
