i am a little overwhelmed and even though this is only our second cycle trying, my doctor put me on clomid because i had a very low progesterone level after the first IUI. we should be going in next week for our next IUI... here's hoping. i am a teacher and am trying to plan it so that i can deliver towards the end of school or in the summer... i would be happy to hear any news or even anyone else's story...

My progesterone levels were very low as well so they had me start progesterone suppositories right away. Then at 16 weeks I started weekly progesterone injections.

I had a lot of complications...
I got pregnant with my very first iui and lost my first son due to an incompetent cervix.
I then had 5 unsuccessful iui's afterwards. After finally getting pregnant (3 years later), I had a cerclage put in at 17 weeks, I started bed rest at 21 weeks and remained on bed rest for the following 18 weeks (9 of which were spent in the hospital). Then my little one, who originally wanted to come at 17 weeks, was born the day before his due date, November 17, 2009!!!

The whole process can be trying and overwhelming and it defiantly puts your life in prospective but it's worth every second.

The moment you first hear your baby's heartbeat, see the little one on the ultrasound screen, hear their first cry... makes every second, every doctors appointment, every medication 100% worth it.

Good luck! And my best piece of advise would be to be patient, miraculous things come to those who wait!

My partner and I have always known we were going to have children and it's getting closer and closer to when we want to start the process. I don't even know where to start but I feel as if we should start now because I know it can take a while and I want to be 100% prepared before making a decision on a donor and to actually start the process. I will be graduating in December and want to at least work for a full year as a nurse before actually having a child but we will probably start trying to get pregnant by the end of next year and anyway what I guess I'm trying to ask is where do we start, what do we need to know and do???(To me it's not all about finding a donor, I want to be as healthy as possible before become pregnant, we obviously understand the financial part of it and I want us both to understand everything we can about this process before starting this journey together.) I think we just need a little of guidance on where to begin.

Having an income is most important place to start. Being stress free and being in harmony with yourself will get you pregnant faster. babycenter.com has a HUGE forum where women from all around the world chat about pregnancy. Highly recommended place! As for as Fairfax...they will ship your donor deposit to the fertility clinic providing they are on their client list. Mine was so I don't know what happens when they are not. Your local fertility clinic will walk you thru the rest. They'll sit with you and go over your options and also do blood work measuring your hormone levels. On a personal level they'll tell you where you stand in the baby making process. I hope that helped some. Good luck!!

Congrats on making the decision to add to your family!
First and foremost, contact your insurance company, see what kind of coverage they offer. Do they cover a reproductive endocrinologist? Do they cover an IUI or an IVF (if you need definitions please ask)? If they don’t cover anything does your employer offer another insurance option that does? I switched insurances to one that would cover more and because you are starting the planning early this is an option for you as well (even if it is just for a year)!!
Your next step would be to find a reproductive endocrinologist, don’t wait a year, do it soon. If you (or your partner) are not comfortable with the first one you find, find another. It is very important to be comfortable with the doctor and their staff. My first dr, I saw his nurses more than I saw him. Write a list of questions for your doctor and bring your medical records and a notebook with you (you‘ll need to take notes). Your doctor may want to run test on you (a good dr would). You’ll have A LOT of blood work, my first set was 18 tubes so drink LOTS of water the day before. There is also a test called an HSG which checks the quality of your fallopian tubes, this one is a little uncomfortable so take some Tylenol before you go.
Ask your doctor how they want the sperm (IUI, ICI, IVF) and how many vials they use in one cycle. Also ask if they have an onsite storage facility and what their charges are. In all reality, your first procedure may not work and you may need more sperm. Will it be cheaper to order more and pay the storage fee at your doctors or to order it cycle by cycle from Fairfax and pay shipping fees each cycle? Fairfax even has onsite storage which may be an option for you. My doctor didn’t charge for 1 year (after conception) then their prices were insane so I ended up donating my unused vial to another couple to avoid charges.
And somewhere between all this you get to pick sperm, have fun! lol It’s really not as easy as you think. What we did first was pick the nationality of my partner, this way our son would kindda resemble her as well (didn’t work though lol my genes TOOK OVER! :). Talk to your dr about the RH factor. After nationality we went right into the medical profile. Then weeded through from there.
I know this is A LOT to take in so feel free to ask questions as they come up.
    Good luck!

We wish you well and send you sweet, baby dust. My wife and I went through two years of trying before we gave birth to our beautiful little daughter in May of this year. After 8 IUI's and 3 IVF's we conceived through IUI! In hindsight it was the fertility acupuncture that Angela received (approx: one year) that truly helped her become the healthiest she could be as well as RELAX. Sadly, we lost three babies during that time but we never gave up and REFUSED to listen to the negative talk from our doctors about Angela's age, heath of her eggs, etc...(fyi... she gave birth to our daughter at 43.) We meditated, did yoga, ate unmedicated meats/veggies, fruits, took every possible vitamin , mineral, herb, and drank tea...you name it , we did it. :D

Trust your instincts...try anything that feels right for you, think and be positive and surround yourself with people that will support you, not discourage you.

    Sincerely,

    Trinity

Here's our story if it helps. We began by sorting through donors, ranking based on health, partner likeness in physical attributes such as eyes, hair, likes and personality (from the available Kiersy tests) and other things such as hobbies that are shared interests. Then we looked at baby pics and made our decisions. We went to the dr.'s office and discussed the desire to have our family at which time my wife was put on prenatal vitamins for about 3 months, then at the 4th month clomid after an ultra sound which showed some great ovaries. On our next visit, an ultra sound which showed two folicles ready to go with two eggs. The IUI was performed and a few weeks later there were two lines on the test!! (It's all fun and games until the two lines pop up-I almost passed out-obviously we were very fortunate and we really didn't think the first time would be a go!!) We are now 10 weeks, due 4-18 with one which will be a...?? We should know in a few weeks. I'll say that we ordered the ICI, because we thought that would be best, but our dr's office then washed it for the IUI process to make things a little more sure. We ordered on the Thurs. after we left the dr's appt and the procedure was Monday. We wish everyone the same great blessings we had and if you have questions, we are glad to answer what we can. Good luck!!

Should you have sex before or after iui? I keep hearing conflicting stories. Some say it helps and others say don't.

We did medicated, 50mg clomid and then the trigger shot. Got the IUI 24 hours after the shot. I started progesterone 10 days after the IUI.
After the IUI I felt pretty "icky" so the rest of the day I just napped and what not.
    Good luck!!
