My doctor told me to order the IUI because they washed it in their facility anyway and it can lower the numbers by cleaning it twice. Cleaning sperm gets rid of the dead sperm but you always take the risk of getting rid of a few good swimmers so if you can avoid having it cleaned twice, avoid it! If you are doing a home insemination have fairfax clean it so the good swimmers have a chance!
This will be our second try at conceiving. I'm 41 and have some questions. I'm hoping
someone can help answer them.
I didn't know ICI could be cleaned-is this true? If it's cleaned, then aren't you buying IUI?
I'm frustrated as to whether we should use a speculum again or just insert the syringe?
How should your body be positioned for the best chances of conception and for how long?
I read put a pillow under your hips, then the opposite not to do this? or should
you have your legs up in the air like your riding a bicycle?
If you test positive for the surge, should you immediately inseminate or wait 12 hours, then what wait another 12 hours?
We plan on ordering 3 vials, so when should we inseminate? For example, I should surge on the strip on day 13
which is Sept. 10th. Should we inseminate the first time on Sept 10th or wait till Sept 11th? Then should we space out the other 2 inseminations by 12 hours?
Oh, and I just read about pre-seed? How about having an orgasm-does it help with conception?
We would really appreciate any advice.
Congrats to all of you blessed parents and may more mothers follow in your footsteps.
Hi there.. I have a question for you.. Are you trying to conceive at home or with a doctor?
I went through my doctor's office. She had us order IUI specimens and, using a speculum and syringe, did the insemination. For our first child, the first insemination worked. We were soo happy. When we decided to try again, it took us 4 inseminations before it took....and we ended up with twins )
After each insemination my doctor had my lay on my back with my hips elevated.
Since I was using my doctor for the inseminations, I would test my urine first thing in the morning to see if I was surging. If I was, I would call and make the appointment for the next day. There was no specific waiting time after a positive surge for the insemination to happen.
As far as the "pre-seed"...We were always in the office waiting for the doc so we had no "pre-seed" LOL
This probably didn't help much, but I just wanted to let you know what we went through. Don't give up.
recommended for home insemination.
My experience with specialist has been that i have to test at night for the surge and if its positive i go the next morning to get inseminated.
It has been a year for me trying to get pregnant. I have had 6 attempts of IUI. I have always thought about that concept you mention. When I am ovulating, I just feel like telling the doctor to inseminate me two or three days in a row to increase my chances.
I too am on my 6th IUI fully medicated with injections and all! My RE doesn't really recommemd the double IUI because they think it could interupt a pregnancy trying to take place. But we bought 18 vials of our donor and after 5 trys I'm leaning towards IVF so this time I requested double and they agreed to try. We will see! I had no idea it would be difficult for me...I'm a healthy 30 yr old with no known fertility problems. I ovulate like clock work too. What does you doctor think about double IUI?
I have not brought that question up to my doctor..but i will next time. My last attempt was in june and after that he gave me the option of IVF or surgery (laparoscopy). I chose the surgery and turns out I had endometriosis, polyp in my uterus and the ends of my fallopion tubes closed due to scar tissue. I never imagined i had those issues. I am 32yrs old and I considered myself healthy.
so this month my doctor has me back on clomid and he wants me to continue with IUI...he says with the surgery I should not have any more trouble... but only time will tell.
well i went with IUI and got pregnant on the first try with twins. i swear it only took 2 seconds for him to deposit the sperm. i think its about timing and before i went to have the prcedure i started taking folic acid pills. i spent years reserching and most tell u to come in about 24 hrs after you ovulate but doing my research i found that most people concieved aroud the 30-34hr mark. When the doctor told me to come in at 10am(24hr mark) i told him i couldnt make it until 4pm bc i knew that would put me right around 30 hr mark and bingo found out 2 weeks later pregnant with twins.
ICI preparation is Intracervical insemination. It is placed just at the opening of the cervix. Your cervical mucus "cleans" the semen as it goes through the vagina through the cervix.
IUI is Intrauterine insemination. It is placed directly into the uterus. So it does must be "cleaned" in advance so that the extra stuff does not enter the uterus.
I got pregnant twice on the first tries using ICI, one successful pregnancy and one miscarriage. I am now using IUI at the doctor's office as we have been trying for a while with no success. Good luck to you!
The IUI sample is the only kind safe for inserting directly into the uterus because the prosteglandins have been washed off. Prosteglandins present in the sperm will cause cramping and are not suitable for placing directly into the uterus.
Our clinic will wash/prepare either kind of sample before performing IUI. Therefore we purchased ICI samples that our clinic then prepared and used for IUI.
For home insemination I'd suggest the ICI sample and placement in the vagina near the cervix. It is not wise to even attempt to insert up through your cervix with at home insemination.
We tried at home 3 times (using a different sperm bank too) with no success then went with our fertility clinic with success on the second try using IUI. On the first try we discovered a minor abnormality with my cervix. For the next pregnancy we had success (twins) on the first try at the clinic using ICI samples processed for IUI use.
