I am so thankful to Fairfax and the donor for making a dream come true. I have a 15-month old baby boy and I could not be happier.
I always knew I wanted a family. I assumed I would get married, buy a house and have 4 children...all before the age of 30! As many of us know, life does not always happen the way we plan it! I was 35, single and facing my 2nd surgery for uterine fibroids. The first surgery to remove 22 fibroids was successful but my doctor made it clear...if I wanted to have children, I needed to do so within 5 years. One year later, I found myself in the ER facing another bout with fibroids. After the 2nd surgery, I began seriously considering donor insemination. I struggled with it the concept for some time...the idea of not conceiving a child in the confines of a loving relationship with a mate was difficult to accept. After much thought and many tears, I made the choice to have a child as a single mother. One insemination later, I was pregnant with my son! On 5/11/09, my sweetpea made his entrance and changed my life forever. Looking back on the process, I wish I had made the decision sooner! I'm now contemplating having a 2nd child with the same donor. I hope to get married - someday. If I don't, I want my son to have a sibling, someone who shares his history.
