New to Insemination...

My partner and I live in Tennessee. We have a great MD that will be helping us along the way. Like many of you on here, I'm sure, our insurance does not pay for the insemination. I was just curious if anyone had a round about figure on what ICI or IUI costs. I understand that this may be a private question, but I am just curious. Thank you in advance for any responses. :D

Hello bilbrey. My partner and I just went for a consultation at a clinic in Middleton Wisconsin. First of all, we tried at home several times with no such luck. We began looking around for clinics that do IUI's. The problem we ran into was most fertility clinics (in our area) won't touch you without doing thousands of dollars in infertility testing. This clinic however, requires no tests up front, (with no background of or reason to believe infertility is an issue) unless we would want them. Anyways, the first consultation cost us $200, but the insurance is picking that up. The IUI itself with no medication is only $275. With fertility meds and ultrasound I believe it is $350. They are by far the most reasonable place we found. Most others in the area costs a minimum of $1000 per IUI plus $3000 in testing. I hope this information is helpful.

Thank you for your information. As of right now, our clinic does not have my partner, Lauren, on any medications for infertility yet. Our insurance has picked up the visits, blood work, and ultrasounds thus far. I am about 99% sure our insurance will not pay for the procedure which is why I was curious about prices. Our clinic is doing an ICI instead of a IUI. I'm not 100% sure what the difference is or if the success rates are better with ICI or IUI. I assume she knows what she is doing.

Again, thanks for the information. Good luck!

IUI is more succesful because the put the sperm close to ur uterus. if u do ICI, it has to swim to the uterus. just ask ur doctor. they will guide u the right way.

The insemination (not counting all the visits, blood tests, ect.) was $800 here in NJ. Insurance has been paying a good portion of the other costs, just not the insemination or sperm (obviously).

For us, it was about $1200 per cycle for the IUI, not including sperm and medicine. (The price went down to $800 or so - I think - after several failed attempts.)

Thank you so much for all of the helpful information. We just wanted sort of a ball park idea just so we knew what we were talking about and not be surprised. But then again, you cant really put a price on wanting a child. I'm sure we would pay anything! :)

My insurance covers some. I am in Minnesota and from what they didnt cover here is the cost.

    Insemination-$225
    Clomid-$35
    Ovadril-$95
    Sperm and shipping- $570

The other visits, blood work and several ultrasounds I have had done they cover.

Thanks Bluesky. You're prices were similar to what we paid today. Our insemination was $215. No Clomid. She did have to take 5 days of Femera which was about $40 and the HCG shot which was about $60 and of course the sperm and shipping was about the same.

Again, thanks to everyone for all the helpful information. It really helped to set our minds at ease. We werent sure exactly what to expect.

Bilbrey828. Good luck. I used to live in Knoxville, TN and used a fertility specialist named Gayla Harris. She was very aggressive and knowledgable about the whole process. I had Blue Cross Blue Shield - Anthem when going through the process and my costs were very similar to Bluesky10. The only difference was I did the HCG shot instead of the Ovadril. Good Luck let me know if you have any questions.

Did you end up doing ICI? It's interesting that your Dr. recommended that first. We were going to try ICI at home for a cycle or two, but my ob/gyn was fairly convinced that she could get us pregnant faster using IUI. We ended up doing 2 cycles of IUI with her (I think it was about $200/cycle, but we did no meds, just the insemination), and got pregnant on the second cycle. I did do acupuncture and took chinese herbs, and tracked my cycle religiously (as I'm sure everyone here does). Good luck to you! Hopefully this will be your first, and only, insemination!

We actually did the IUI in the office and to our surprise, it took on the first time!! :)

We only tried once so far... Insurance covered a lot of the testing and meds. Of course we paid for the sperm, and the IUI for us was just under $800. (Everything is more expensive in Jersey. :/)

    Janet,
We are in New Jersey too. Everything is inflated here ;)
