Re: Our Journey to Becoming a Family

Hi Everyone :) I havent been back to this site in quite a while and the changes are amazing! I love this new forum for discussing the best journey in the world...Motherhood/Parenthood 8-)

My partner and I started this journey not long after we got together. We had been best friends for years, were even living together long before we realized we shared a strong, lasting connection. When we started this journey to have a child, we had no idea what we were in for :) As it was, it turned out better than expected.

The doctors started me out on Clomid pills, which made me feel hormonal and awful most of the time. On that, we had two unsuccessful IUIs. After the second attempt, my doctors suggested that I take Gonal~F, the shot, and my partner, began giving me the shots (much as she hated to do it).

I'll never forget getting the phone call that changed our lives. I was sitting on hall duty at the end of the day, Im a teacher, and I picked up my cell phone to check the time. WhenI did that, I saw that the doctor's office had called. Figuring they would never leave a message telling whether or not I was pregnant or or not, I quickly checked my messages (careful not to get caught on the school cameras). If only I had the video of this! I should ask the administrators to pull the tape LOL Anyway, as I listened, sure my doctor was going to say to please call him, I was SHOCKED to hear "Hi (my name), It's Dr...., Congratulations! You're pregnant! Keep taking the ...." I was in complete and utter shock! My partner and I had discussed this day, talking excitedly about how we would listen together when the doctor called, etc. I wasnt sure at that moment if I was more excited/shocked or worried how my partner would feel when she found out I had heard about the pregnancy without her LOL Even worse, I had to sit on hall duty for another 15 minutes before the day was over and I couldnt tell anyone at all!!!

I raced home (an hour's drive) to tell my partner. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen cooking and as she turned to me, I felt our world change for the better. She turned to me very casually and I whispered "It worked!" Her mouth fell open and she started to cry! Then she yelled while laughing and crying "You took the call without me!" When I explained how everything unfolded, I was forgiven...after all, I was carrying our child :)

I am very happy to report that our beautiful baby boy was born a year ago and is the sun, moon, stars, and the very air that we breathe! He's an amazing little man! I am so incredibly in love! My pregnancy was uneventful and blissful. I loved being pregnant more than anything! I never felt so alive and healthy and just plain fantastic! I only gained 13 pounds by the time my son was born, probably because all I craved was yogurt, blueberries and strawberries :) nothing but healthy stuff! A little disappointing if you ask me....I had the perfect excuse to get big and fat!

Thank you for sharing all of your stories on here. I know our lives are not the easiest to live, and sometimes I worry about bringing a child up in this world that can be so cruel.....but I wouldnt trade him for anything in the world and my partner, she is the light of my life....I wouldnt trade her for anything either. I only hope that life continues to be as wonderful as it has been since the day we "found" each other and the day our son was born. Our family is everything to the both of us.

My only disappointment is that we used the last unit we had when we finally became pregnant and, now that we are looking to try again, our donor is "inactive". We did purchase 6 units from another donor right before I got pregnant (we were worried it wouldnt work), but it would really be wonderful to have the same donor this time around.

Do any of you have any experience with "inactive" donors? Is there any chance the donor may start donating again? I guess we will call Fairfax and see what they have to say, but any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to all of you :) I hope and pray your stories are as happy as mine and that, if it hasnt happened for you as of yet, that you do not lose hope that it will someday happen :)

Congratulations! We were planning on using another donor...we bought 6 vials a while back...but when our son was born and we didnt do the cord banking we really started thinking about using the same donor if it became possible. Finding this site and reading so many stories has made me really start thinking about trying again and soon. I called Fairfax today and found that the donor we used actually is NOT inactive :) My partner and I are both so excited! Here we go again....cant wait :) It'll be a few months of planning and saving before we can actually do the IUI (if we can wait ;) ) We'll just have to wait and see :)

My partner used the only vial she bought back in 2008. We had a beautiful little girl in April of 2009. Its now my turn to try and when I was looking to pick a guy, the original guy was inactive. However, right before I was going to purchase vials he had 7 units come available. I bought two, and will go in Monday for my first attempt. Heres hoping it takes. I took clomid and will take ovadril sat night. Right now my follicas are only at 14 and 11 so they need a bit more growing time.

My partner and I had the same problem. We had our first child in 2008. It took us 7 tries using IUI with a fertility specialist. By the time I finally got pregnant we were out of money to buy extra vials and store them. Six months later we wanted to start working on a second child and found that the donor did not have any vials left. We decided that we would look for a donor that had very similar features as our first childs donor. We did find one and used him. Our second child took us 4 tries before taking. Right after getting pregnant with our second child I got an email from a woman who had a kid using the same donor as we did for our first. She said she had extra vials if we would like to buy them. Unfortunately it was too late as I was 2 months pregnant. I love him (second child) to death and the two kids suprisingly look alot alike. But if you are looking to use the same donor I would suggest going on to www.donorsiblingregistry.com and seeing who else has had a kid using the same donor number. They may have vials that don't need anymore and would be willing to sell.
