question about donors

chercher Junior Member
I wondered if fairfax keeps records of who the donors are (their real names, places of residence etc) or if they are just a number after their profiles are checked. I was just curious.
I also wondered if donors were required to report any changes to fairfax as per the health profile they filled out when donating - many are young and as people get older, health issues sometimes arise or change. I just wondered if the health reporting ended with the profile we purchased a few years ago, or if it is ever updated and d.i families made aware of any changes.
Thank you.

Fairfax Cryobank does have records of our donors. In certain medically necessary circumstances, we will, upon physician request, attempt to obtain specific additional donor medical or genetic information and testing. Donor identity in these circumstances will remain anonymous.

We have a program that reaches out to past donors and allows them to easily update medical and personal information confidentially. Donors who wish to update their information can contact Client Services and they will be directed to the laboratory staff that will assist them in this process. We publish relevant updated information on the donor’s summary profile. We will be posting medical updates in the private forum area for each donor.

Does Fairfax have a program where we can correspond with our donor anonymously such as through letters?
  • Fairfax CryobankFairfax Cryobank Administrator Senior Member
Fairfax Cryobank does not currently have a program that allows for our clients and donors to correspond, even anonymously. However, we are always looking for new ideas to give our clients the most information about their donor. This would be a really great option to for people to connect with their donor and get some answers to more in-depth questions. Thank you for your suggestion.

This is a great idea....with adoptions, once a child is 18 years old and they have a "consent" to meet their birth parents...and birth parents have given "consent" then the adoption agency will coordinate a meeting...or facilitate a way for them to exchange their information.

Calif. Cryobank has a new policy where even anonymous donors (all of them) can be open if by the consent of both the donor and the offspring. This is the wave of the future. Why is Fairfax Cryobank not providing this service or instituting this policy?

The only difference between CCB's open donor and an anonymous donor is that with an open donor they guarantee one meeting. It's wonderfully called an "openness policy": http://cryobank.com/Services/Post-Conce ... ss-Policy/

Fairfax Cryobank understands that many of our clients would like the opportunity to know more about their donors. However, anonymous donors from Farifax Cryobank will always remain anonymous based on the agreements and contracts that were in place when a donor donated at the Cryobank. It would not be ethical for us to compromise the agreements we made with all of the people involved from the donor to the recipient. Our privacy policy explains this in detail.

Please visit our website to read the Fairfax Cryobank Privacy Policy.

Your statement does not make sense to me. How would donors be compromised if they CONSENT to the openness at the later date? CCB's policy requires mutual consent. Contracts are not immutable and it would be the donor that would be consenting to their information being released and the removal of the anonymity.

One line was removed due to its incendiary nature.
