If it were me I would try to go off them. I had this discussion with my doc as I struggle with depression, mainly seasonal. Her recommendation was to be off them the 1st and 3rd trimester as its the worset time to be on them.
This has been my doc for years and knows my history with depression, and how bad it can get. Even so she recommends being off of it and only going on if absolutely necessary. Did you talk to your doctor about this prior to your planing? -
Of course the best way to go through a pregnancy is to not be on any prescription medications, but that is not the case all the time. A key thing to try, is to be on the least "class" of antidepressants you can be. Find out what "class" you antidepressants are. It goes by the alphabet and the earliest letters in the alphabet, have the least amount of side effects. Zoloft and Celexa are two most common antidepressants used during pregnancy. They are both class "C" and have withdrawal symptoms for the baby when it is born. Need to really stay away from anything that can cause mental or especially physical birth defects. No fun having your baby go off for plastic surgery after it is born. Also, it is not fun if your are not feeling happy during your pregnancy. I personally was on Paxil with my Daughter over a decade ago. I was only on 40mg and she did not suffer any defects so far to date. I am on 40mg of generic Celexa now and plan on staying on it, if and when I do get pregnant. Good luck!

I've taken Effexor, primarily to deal with cluster migraines, but yes, of course it helps even my moods. I've seen and read some things that just tell me it's not worth the risk... as such, I've been feeling pretty crappy and suffering through some withdrawl, but better me than a newborn if/when I become prego.
Ultimately, if you can back off or cut them out completely that is best, but if you EVER think you are a danger to yourself or others, that isn't good for you and baby either, so be sure to tell your doctor if you need something.
