No pregnancies...

For donors that have no pregnancies, are there any kind of indications we can get on how long they've been available or how many specimens have been purchased of theirs (etc) compared to other donors? What info can we get that would make us feel more comfortable selecting that donor that seems perfect but shows no pregnancies?

This is a legitamate concern for many clients who utilize donor sperm. The number of pregnancies reported will differ due to several different criteria.

How long the donor has been in the program can affect the number of pregnancies reported. New donors to the catalog obviously will not have any reported pregnancies for a while. Patients can contact Client Services for the date that the donor was added to the web.

Fairfax Cryobank also relies on patients to report all pregnancies to us and while we strongly encourage all patients to do so, we cannot require it.

Also, this information is difficult to use as a determining factor of sperm quality since many patients that utilize our services have fertility challenges of their own.

Fairfax Cryobank does want our clients to know that we are committed to sperm quality. The screening process is intentionally designed to be rigorous and exclude any donor who does not meet every one of our high standards. Only 1% of donor applicants are accepted. The long screening process involves an extensive health questionnaire; physical exam; medical, genetic and infectious disease testing; a thorough sperm quality evaluation and several in-person interviews with our staff. Repeated physical exams and infectious disease testing are ongoing while donors are active.

For more information or concerns please contact Client Services to speak with a supervisor who will be able to review donor specific information by calling 800-338-8407.
