My partner and I had our first visit to the 'specialist' today. She is one of the few people I have found to assist in a medical setting where I live for an IUI. Now all we do is have to pick a sperm bank, and sperm. Not so easy, my head is spinning! Anyone have any advice they can offer for first timers? Picking a donor is the least of my worries, we just want someone over 6ft that has had a reported pregnancy before.
thanks.

Do some research. Its not that scary or that much to it really.

If you are going to go with an ID options donor make sure you get all the paper work done well in advance. You also have some other paper work that needs to be done in order to use any donor so I would make sure that is all set up so you dont end up missing a cycle due to that.

For me, at the time the donor was the hardest to pick. I wasnt finding any that I liked that were available. At the last second an old donor that my partner and I used had some available, so go them and then after that another donor I wanted came up again so got a few more. Turns out I didnt need the second donor but will hang on to them because I do eventually want another child.

Since you already did your first appointment now the rest should be pretty easy. When you start your cycle you probably call the doc. They will send you for a cd 3 ultrasound and bloodwork. Then if you are using drugs you will probably start clomid on cycle day 3 or 5 depending on how many days they have you take it. Most do 5 days but my doc does 7. Then about cd12 you will go back in for ultrasound to check the size of the follies. You may end up getting more then one to make sure they are big enough. ONce they are you will get the trigger shot and then depending how many hours out your doc does you will go back in for insem. And thats pretty much it!

My doc does one insem 36 hours after trigger.

You may also have another blood check at 7 days post iui to get progesterone to make sure its high enough to hold a pregnancy should it take.

Had my first IUI last Wednesday! We did our first try with no meds, considering I'm 33 and healthy we wanted to give it a shot. The 2ww is killing me. I am very aware of my body changes every day, but I may just be making them up in my head! Can't wait to test!
