Hello,
I am in the process of trying IUI with meds for the first time. The clinic I go to recommends Femara over Clomid. Does anyone have experience or know of successes/risks/etc. using Femara???
Also wondering who all has used the hsg shot and injectables and how those all worked out???
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Kathy

I just had my 3rd IUI yesterday and this cycle I did Luveris & Follistim injectibles and the HCG trigger shot. I did the first 2 cycles all natural with no meds except for the HCG trigger shot. My first cycle I only had one follicle (21cm) and the second cycle I had 3 (16, 18 & 21). This time even with the injectibles I had 3 follicles but all of them matured (18, 19 & 21) and they matured earlier than my natural cycles did. So we'll see in a couple of weeks what the verdict is! I also incorporated accupuncture and yoga for fertility into this cycle as well. The injectibles weren't bad. The follistim was easy as it was a pen and you just twist it to the dosage you want and give yourself the shot and stick it back into the fridge until the next use. The luveris, not so much! It was more like the HCG shot where you have to draw up the liquid and inject it into the powder and then inject yourself. The only side affects I had were mild headaches but they went away as soon as I was done with the meds. My insurance paid a big portion of the injections. My cost was $257 and without insurance the meds would have been $1500. If you are considering injections I would ask your doctor for the names and dosages of the drugs she/he is planning to use and check with your insurance on their coverage first because the follistim is very expensive. It's a tiny vial about 3-4 inches long and without insurance most places charge $1000. My health insurance (Aetna) will not cover my IUI's or IVF until I've been trying on my own without success for at least 6 months but my prescription drug coverage is through Medco and they have covered all of the meds with me only paying a copay. So since I'm paying out of pocket I'm traveling the IUI route because I can afford 6 of them whereas one round of IVF would suck the bank dry in one cycle and if that's not successful then I'm sitting idle until I can afford to pay for another cycle. Let me know if you have other questions I can help you with! Good luck!
They sure don't make it easy for us!!!
That is why we need females to run our countries!!! haha
