Au Natural?

sibemomsibemom Member Member
Anyone else doing IUI without any other augmentation (clomid, etc). I'm curious how others are timing their attempts based upon their own tracking.

For me, it's a pretty regular period tracked over so many months on mymonthlycycles.com, ovulation test kits, some additional vitamins, and prayers. :)

You?

Well, I'm not doing it completely natural! I am on Clomid 50 mg....but besides that, I don't do anything else...no trigger shot, etc....

I get regular ultrasounds from my doctor (wait, that's not natural, sorry)....first ultrasound is sometime around day 3-5 (to get clomid prescription--to make sure no cysts? from clomid)...then i take clomid days 5-9...then schedule appointment for another ultrasound on day 14....they'll take a look and see if i'm close to ovulating. I do ovulation test strips from day 12-15....i might call doctor if i've had LH surge to get an earlier appointment....then they do another ultrasound...and I've ovulated (usually on day 15)!!!

Ok, maybe that was too much info....I've also started researching acupuncture....I'm willing to try anything to increase my chances. So I'm trying to schedule an appointment this week before my next IUI on Sunday (hopefully)!

I tried 5 cycles unmedicated, just using OPK and well timed IUI all with no success (no known reproductive issues, 29yrs old) :( Just starting first round of Clomid this month for an extra boost. We shall see how that goes :) I know that unmedicated can work so good luck

When trying for my 1st pregnancy I did 3 months of IUI with no meds or monitoring...all 3 failed. I have no issues, I am regular, ovulate on my own, my blood work (FSH etc.) all came back fine and my HSG was clear. I was just using OPK's for timing. I then tried 2 months of Clomid plus using the OPK's, those also failed. I did not have any luck until I tracked my egg production and ovulation with ultrasound. First time I was monitored by ultrasound and given a trigger to make sure I was ovulating at the exact perfect time for my IUI we got pregnant. I think for me the OPK's were just not accurate enough. When you are dealing with a limited number of WASHED sperm, usually 10 million that can live for about 24 hours, and you also only get one shot with an IUI you don't have the same chances as those who can have intercourse all week with 200 million sperm per coupling that can live in the body for 4 or so days on top of that. I would suggest monitoring, it's quick and easy and gives you accurate timing. Good luck!

Those ladies using Clomid I HIGHLY suggest monitoring, my triplets are thanks to Clomid...and I know lots of other twin and triplet momma's that were on Clomid. I really feel Doctor's should not be giving that out without monitoring.

KJtrips+, the women that used Clomid and had twins/triplets....was that with 50 mg or primarily 100 mg?
  • KJtrips+KJtrips+ Member Member
I am on a message board for moms of multiples, we have moms of twins and triplets that took 50mg, 100mg (I was on 100mg myself) and 150mg. Just depends how well your body responds to the drug.

I had two IUI's with no meds. Both were unsuccessful. I was supposed to get my third IUI this month but my hormones are apparently all over the place. I have to start fertility shots this cycle. I hope they work.

What do you mean fertility shots. Are you talking about injectables? What are the shots for?

I had 3 IUI with natural cycles, but none of them were successful. I am very healthy and my hormone levels have been always quite perfect. No problem with ovulation, progesterone LH and so on and all was absolutely so regular...but no luck (@38 years of age)
Then my RE put me on 5mg of Clomid, and my body responded so well producing 5 follicles of which 3 stayed small and 2 made it until the end. Ovulation on day 15 of the cycle (June 13) both eggs were released, my hormones were perfect and now I am pregnant with 1 baby and I have just finished my week 9 :D
Hearth beat was present and strong since week 6. I have been monitored weekly and now I have been transferred to my doctor/midwife of choice!

Keep in mind, every body respond differently, you just have to find the right way for you, and I am sure you all will be successful!

    Best of luck,
    Roberta

I'm 39 and have always had regular periods. I had my 4th natural IUI on 16 July. I just tested positive on 4 Aug. My hormone levels area bit low, so I'm on progesterone supplements and having lots of blood tests. Hopefully doing the first ultrasound next week. Fingers crossed for a safe and healthy pregnancy.

    Good luck to all

Congratulations Anne! I'm considering a natural cycle because I've now had 3 Clomid cycles and 1 injectable cycle, and two cancelled cycles for overstimulation. I'm 41 and have regular periods, ovulate like clockwork, and have what has been described as very "young" ovaries. Somehow I think all of these meds have screwed up a "normal" system. So with the two remaining vials I may try a natural cycle at home and one in the office.

Hope that you have a sticky gummi bear! Please keep us posted.
