First Try - Need Advice

Hi. I am new to all of this. My DH unfortunately has a 0 sperm count. :cry: Thus, this is our way to have children. I just ordered some vials from a donor here - and will try vaginal insemination at home. I have a few questions:

* What syringe did those of you who did at home inseminations use (brand, size)?
* Did you use pre-seed?
* How do you know you're far enough in? Sorry if silly question - but I just don't know if I'm going to be doing this righ :oops:
* Did any of you practice with egg whites?
* Did you use a speculum?
* How many vials did you buy?
* How many do you get shipped for each cycle? Is one enough or should I order two?? Do I use them same day or different days?

Anything else you think I should know? This is so exciting and so confusing at once. :roll:

Babydust to you all.

- Mary ;)

    While I do not proclaim to have answers to your questions... perhaps a response will get others commenting too.

    The only insight I'd offer is the same that goes for my own thoughts. Next month I am probably going to try two vials. Since I'm not doing things at home and constrained to the doctor's office hours I'll prb do them two days in a row, mayhaps one in the afternoon and one the next morning - if doable.

    My logic is this: After your LH surge I've read you release an egg 24-36 hours later. Then the egg survives for 12-24 hours.
    How long does sperm survive? According to my reading fresh from the source the max is 5 days, but defrosted is 12-24 hours.

    So, I'm thinking 26-48 hours after LH surge should be the peak opportunity. I've tried two times with just one specimen, but I might go for two next month if this month ends up negative - as my gut tells me.

    Here's one site that I am referencing: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/gettin ... ation.html
