Help Getting Started

My partner and I have been together for 10 years, talking about having kids for the past 3 years. We live in a rural community and we do not have access to many resources or support. We hope to do a home insemination but we are unsure what steps to take, if we will still need a doctor to sign off on the Fairfax forms and the success rates of doing this at home. Is there a step by step guide on this process? How do you thaw at home, how long do you wait, how often do you do the fertility tests...Any advise would be helpful, we already narrowed our donor list down to 3 potential donors :)

Thanks!!

My partner and I also live in a VERY rural area but I LOVE my family doc and so I felt comfortable talking with her about our decision to want to start a family and she referred me to a fertility specialist who actually helped her get pregnant when her and her husband were having problems. This specialist is about an hour maybe a little more from us. We decided to go with a fertility doctor because we wanted to up our odds of getting pregnant instead of doing it at home. (especaiily since sperm is so expensive) I am not sure of the success rates for at home but it normally takes 4-6 tries with medicated IUI before it works. Our first 2 tries were unsuccessful but we are going to keep trying. I would look into your insurance a lot cover 3 IUIs now. If you do it at home you do need a doc to sign off on it. Im not sure if you can get a family doc to do that or if you need a specialist. I would start by either calling fairfax and asking if they need a fertility specialist or call your family doc and talk to him or her. Hope this answers some of your questions!!

ICI's are for home use. You will need a doctor to sign off on it. Fairfax can not legally ship human speciman to a household unless a healthcare provider has legally signed off that the use is for pregnancy.

We inseminated at home. There are directions. Just be prepared with gloves to take the vial out of the tank. Read the directions first! Make sure you have the stuff required to get it out of the vial and into your parner (correct size syringe or whatever is recommended).

Most people do IUI's, but you need a doctor to assist you with that procedure.

Step One: find a doctor that you can trust
Step Two: TBD after your doctor's appointment.
