Current stress

sibemomsibemom Member Member
As background: Third round of trying without clomid or other triggers. My body has been pretty dead on to the mymonthlycycles.com trackers based on my previous information and I usually show a positive LH surge early in the days it notes as when ovulation should occur.

Current situation: This month I switched to a different donor and was going to do 2 specimens. I started with appointments this past Wed and Thurs, so I had the specimens shipped Monday to arrive Wed. Had to postpone the Wed appt to Friday... still no ovulation on Thursday, but I went anyhow as I was VERY due for a positive surge.

Friday morning comes after one specimen is used and still no surge - so I moved the Friday appointment to Monday figuring watch me go right first thing Saturday morning... here I am Sunday night, still no positive LH surge and a tank that hits day 7 tomorrow. What do I do? I either let the specimen lay in waste or I use it and hope ovulation occurs shortly thereafter.

    Sibemom,
I'm so sorry for your current stress as if this process doesn't bring enough stress :o I say use the vial. I think it would be better to use it than just let it thaw! I'm guessing your doctor doesn't have the facilities to keep them frozen for you and if that is the case than go for it. Maybe they will be laying in wait for the egg!
Best wishes and lots of baby dust!

I agree with Robin. Im sorry sibemom. I actually had very irregular ovulation until I started clomid. Now I ovulate exactly on day 15. I would suggest talking to your doctor about going on clomid. It really helped me. Good luck!

After taking a month off due to stress, emotions, etc....I started Saturday. I called my doctor today because it is day 3 and on day 3 I go to the doctor for an ultrasound and to start my meds. I was nervous because my clinic is closed on Sundays. I found out this morning that they will adjust my dates??? She basically said we will change your clomid from day five to starting it on day four. We will give you your shot on Thursday evening and you will have the IUI Saturday morning which will be day 14. Anyone every heard of this? Should I be concerned? Right now I actually feel a little better about it instead of the way my cycle has been falling. The last two iui's I had I had to have my shots on a Saturday morning at 7am and I didn't have the IUI's until Monday morning at around 9:30 so it was a full 50 hours after the shot. I just didn't feel good about that. This time I'm going to ask to have the shot late in the afternoon or close to the evening.
Anyone ever hear of having an IUI on day 14?

Jl2011 I usually start the clomid on day 3 by day 12 my follicles are mature and I get the trigger shot than the iui on day 13. So I guess yes I have heard of that. I will be trying for the third time in july. No BFP yet but here's hoping that the third time is a charm. I think it just depends on when you start the clomid. My docs office is open 7 days a week so I am not on that schedule for their convenience, that just seems to be their protocol. If the follicles are mature than it doesn't matter when you have it done. The last time the follicle was so large I almost ovualted on my own, thankgoodness I didn't! Good luck to you! Lots of baby dust your way!

    Sibemom,

Yes, I went through with it. Thanks for the uplifting comments folks!

My doctor is in surgery on Mondays, so I had to see a midwife... but she actually answered some questions for me and mentioned another patient they had in a similar situation who ended up prego from the "well, we may as well use it" attempt.

She also commented that donor (previously frozen) sperm could still live up to 3 days - giving me some more hope if I ovulate in the next day or two. Of course, I don't know how accurate that is... as what I've read online doesn't seem to concur. What have ya'll been told or seen?

Oh she also mentioned chasteberry as something to consider taking to help further regulate my ovulation.

Try acupuncture, if you're open to it. I really feel a difference after I started it 4 weeks ago. The acupuncturist also provides herbs too...but I haven't tried that yet. Good luck!!!

Update: Finally a positive OV test this evening. Having has IUI at 1:30 on Monday, and it taking 12-36 hours after the LH surge to ovulate - chances are slim slim slim, but at least there is a chance.

I'm not sure how old you are but if you are in your later 30's I would jump to injectables and stop wasting money and time on unmedicated cycles. Even if you have fertility coverage why waste time on this emotional rollercoaster??
We have several surges throughout the day around ovulation time and the only way to time your IUIs better is with blood tests and transvaginal ultrasounds. The OPK's are not as accurate and you could be missing your surge. Clomid is an all or nothing drug that ramps up ovulation with zero control over how many follicles you will produce. It is designed to trick the brain to thinking that it's not ovulating. So the monitoring visits will give you an indication on how big, how many follicles, and if you are getting ready to ovulate. Therefore the IUI can be timed within the next 24-48 hours for improved success. The injectables actually stimulate the ovaries and the meds can be adjusted according to your body's response. For example, if it looks like you are producing too many follicles that will mature the doctor can back off the dosage or visa versa. The injectables also help with the egg quality and maturation unlike Clomid. The choice is yours but research your options and ask questions. Sometimes doctors just go with same old cookie cutter plan and aren't that flexible. Hopefully your doc is open to suggestions/dialogue.

Also accupuncture and yoga are good additions to your plan.

I hope this helps and please keep us posted with your updates! Good luck and baby dust to all!
