High FSH and premature ovarian failure

My head is swimming with confusion, so I'll try to be brief, and not get more confused!
After several unsuccessful IUI's, I changed clinics, went to a fertility specialist and was all set for a cycle of IVF. Injectible meds at home, everything here and ready to go. I went in for my baseline, and the MD saw what she thought was an ovarian cyst, so decided to take BCP for a week or so, and then we could still start this cycle (I had an Hsg and hysteroscopy over the last two weeks). She then called me later, and explained my bloodwork showed a high FSH level (which it never has before), and today I went and has this AMH level drawn. She mentioned the "premature ovarian failure" diagnosis, and the limited response to stimulation, that if I were to go ahead, I might not get many eggs this cycle. I'm 35, and this level was normal a few months ago. Maybe I'm at the cusp?
I have never read too much about this, and what I read since yesterday was very upsetting. I'd love to hear some other stories, maybe some hopeful ones?! :P
I go back next Thursday, and the hope is that the AMH level will be available, and I can continue as planned. And she's no longer worried about the cyst, and said it was near the tube, but didn't matter since it's IVF and my tubes are blocked anyway!
Thanks in advance for any opinions/resources/stories...

I don't have good news but i can say that I sympathize and am right there with you! I am 37 and have just one ovary after the left one had to be removed due to endometriosis and a rather large infection after surgery this past fall. I decided to start this process after I fully recovered. Everything seemed fine with the ovary I do have the hsg was open and all the blood work came back good in february. Then comes June and I start injectibles and guess what nothing happened!!! The follicles never grew! So my RE took blood work. My FSH level in february was 8 in the beginning of July it was 72! the levels for menopause vary from 23 - 116. So 72 is not good. I am hoping that my FSH was so high due to the injectibles and testing so soon after the shot. My Re said that he has had women get pregnant at FSH at 23 but no one with a higher FSH with their own eggs and if you have to get donor eggs the price is like 6000 for the eggs! So I had the bllod test done again a week ago and am waiting for AF to arrive so I can go back in for another blood test on day 2 or 3 for another FSH level. The doc and I am hoping that the test was done too soon after the injectibles and if that is not the case I am hoping that it was just temporary! He said I bet you never thought you would hear me say you were too young for anything!! That comment helped laugh a little becasue if I didn't laugh I was just going to cry. i have done a lot of praying and have asked all of my friends and the women on this post to pray for me as well. honestly I think it is helping. I feel like I have ovulated albet 2 weeks later than I should have but am thinking AF will come this week. I have never looked forward to AF so much!!!
I will add you to my prayers!! for me this has been a different sort of a tww but a tww all the same.
So while I can not give good news I can give support and lend an ear to you thoughts and concerns as i am probably having the same ones. For me I have been thinking of worst case scenario and trying to plan for that with the hope that I never have to use that plan! Just something that works for me.
Good luck sending lots of prayers to your ovaries!!!
Robin
I just found out I have the same thing. My first few cycles seemed to be fine but now last month and this month I had a high fsh. The nurse told me today it was pre ovarian failure. I am on estradiol now again. I'm supposed to do ivf but I don't even know if it is worth it. I may only have one egg if I am lucky. I feel so sad and ready to give up. My husband is already infertile. I don't understand why this is now happening. Haven't we been through enough?
I don't know what your fsh levels are and I think that makes a difference. Mine were at 15 the last time they were checked. My doc told me that he has gotten women pregnant with their own eggs at an fsh as high as 23 but not higher. He has told me that we will see what happens each mo th. Some months a good follicle will develop some months not. So some months I will go ahead with the iui some months noth. In august I had a good cycle had one follie and did the iui. Unfortunately a bfn. This month no good follie I stopped the injectibles after 4 days because estrogen did not go above 100 like he wanted, so waiting for af to start to try a back to back iui. I only have one ovary so I will probably never get more than 2 follies. I have never gotten more than one but my thought is it only takes one!
Regan just did ivf with three follies one of which was able to be transferred. It depends on what you are willing to do. My insurance is great so injectibles is not out of pocket, if it were I would not be able to do this "let's see if this month works". With a low ovarian reserve we have to have more patience or go to donor eggs.
Talk to your doctor and ask what is the probability of getting you pregnant? Does the doc think ivf can work? I am hopeful that regan's tww ends with a bfp! Remind yourself that it only takes one follie! How many iui cycles have u done? Have u used injectibles?
If I can help at all let me know! Stay positive!
Regan and I have been chatting on the share your story..... anyone moving onto injectibles if you want to check that out! We can be a great source of support for each other during thbis roller coaster.
Sending lots of baby dust to you!
You don't happen to work in the mental health field do you (regan and I both do, its just a coincidence I know but a funny coincidence!)
