Injectables with IUI with one fallopian tube

maria2maria2 Senior Member Senior Member
Ok, I'm clueless about injectables...doing my next IUI with injectables. However, the doc suspects that I have a blocked left fallopian tube. I spoke with two nurses at REs office and they said it doesn't matter which cycle you do the IUI with injectables since meds will stimulate ovulation on both sides...

However, I wonder if I should just wait, just in case, to do the IUI when I know my right ovary is the side thats supposed to ovulate..since I ovulate right left right left...after months of trying...

What do you ladies think....I keep asking everyone and looking on internet but cant figure it out for sure. My acupuncturist thinks it makes more sense to wait for right side...so dont know if I should wait 2 weeks and do it when my left ovary ovulates...IE/6 weeks when my right ovary ovulates (the good side)...ugh! So confusing...I just want to increase my success rate!!! Thanks.

    Maria,
I can only tell you my experience. I have used injectables twice. I only have one ovary and one fallopian tube. I once thought that I would skip periods every other month but the right one just took over and now works each month. (I used to have both but one had to be removed) It is my understanding that with injectables it will stimulate both ovaries not just one, that is why some people get 4-5 follicles. I will propbably never get that much since I only have one ovary. Now they think I might have a low ovarian reserve, so I am ecstatic to get just one! So I think that the injectables will stimulate both ovaries at once! If you have to pay for it all out of pocket than you may want to wait just so you are more comfortable. If your insurance picks up alot then you may want to try. Which ever decision you make will be the best one for you!

Sending lots of prayers and baby dust your way!

Thank you Robin!!! It's just that my insurance does NOT pay for the injectable meds, so I'm trying to maximize the cycle. I think I'll wait then....just will feel more comfortable then. :D

Maria I would get an HSG test if you haven't had one yet. That will determine if you have any blocked tubes. It could also clean out both sides and leave them wide open and you would be prime for getting pregnant! Lots of people have success in getting BFP's 1-2 cycles after the HSG test done. I'd ask your doctor if you haven't already. I had it done before I even started to rule out any issues. I didn't want to throw away money doing IUI if I knew for sure I had a blocked tube but mine were wide open. This is considered diagnostic so the insurance paid for it. Good luck!

@latebloomer - yes, I had the HSG...but the results were not definitive....but they assumed that the left tube is blocked -- dye went in but did not appear to go through. The doctor who completed the HSG was inexperienced, it was her first week I think....but the problem is that my insurance doesn't cover it...I think it's $250. I could request another one but hate the thought of paying more money to tell me the same thing...my insurance is good about covering somethings but doesn't cover other stuff.
