Quints by surprise

hopefulcharhopefulchar Senior Member Senior Member
So we were watching reruns of the show quints by surprise on tlc tonight and realize that they used a sperm donor. Isn't that so exciting! I had watched that show a lot prior to trying for babies and had no idea that the father didn't provide the sperm. I guess my older more educated self is more aware of things around me. I feel so encouraged for my husband and my family right now! Has anybody else seen the show?

I've seen it. I had no idea they used a sperm donor! That is so exciting. But, when they tell their story I never once heard them mention this. I knew they used IVF to get pregnant. But, I guess it was a personal choice to not mention it before. Their babies are adorable and they look a lot like their mom.

Wow...I take that back. I just googled it. Apparently they didn't use IVF at all. Their first daughter was conceived via IUI. Then a few years later they wanted to give her a sibling and had another IUI and got pregnant with the multiples. I want to know who her doctor is lol. She had two IUI's and both resulted in pregnancies. Awesome.

Well, I definitely need to find out who their doctor is because they live and Austin and so do I!

I saw a link online somewhere with an interview with their doctor. I will try to find it again for you. Although maybe you won't need it ;). How are you feeling? You just have a couple more days right? My fingers are crossed that you will have good news to report soon.

They used DR. Reich at Women Partners in Health in Austin, Texas. I am also a patient of Dr. Reich. I had 3 IUI's...with the third being successful. However, Dr. Reich did not perform the IUI that resulted in my pregnancy...another OB in the office did. The entire practice is amazing!

Do you think that any doctor is really different than another in how they actually do the proceedure? Doesn't it all come down to luck and if you have timed your ovulation correctly? I mean, I really like my doctor at the Austin Fertility Center and I am confident that she gets the catheter inthe right spot. Since I am unmedicated and my insurance doesn't cover ultrasounds for the IUI, we are just guessing as to which side has the egg. I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't afford all of the accupuncture sessions, medication and ultrasounds because I am paying out of pocket for the cost of the vials and IUI. What else is there to increase my chances? I get so excited leading up to the IUI and then so pessimistic during the TWW.

Maybe I'm being silly but does it matter which side the egg is on when they do the procedure? I'm confused

I asked my doctor the same thing and she said that in our mind we view our uterus as this big space and the tubes are so far apart, but in acuality, it is a really tiny gap, so aiming toward one side or the other shouldn't matter. But in my mind, if only one side had the egg, that is the side you want the sperm to be on.
