Trust me, you are NOT alone! This is my 10th cycle and we're still trying. I've had all sorts of problems just ovulating and it's incredibly trying on an emotional level. My wife is far more resilient than I, although I tell myself I have room to be crazy since I've been on hormones for the better part of a year! 
Clomid is challenging, regardless of the dosage. I've been on 50, 100 and 150 on various cycles for durations of both 5 and 10 days. YUCK! My last cycle was with Letrozole, which had almost no side effects, but also wasn't effective. So next month I start HSG injections. We'll see.
The world is full of small-minded people - you will have to learn to let that roll off your back. The first time I told someone I was trying to get pregnant, their first question was, "Does Melissa know?" - as if I was trying to get pregnant by cheating on my wife with some random guy. I've also had friends ask me why I can't just find a cute guy and put a bag over his head to save us the money of this process. For me, I've stopped trying to change people's opinions. I just do my thing and hope that their minds will change when they see our family in action.
