Deciding at 36 1/2 to have children

Our story is cute and one I'll cherish forever. One day I woke up and said to my lovey I want children. We had two dogs, four lizards and an angry cat. I decided that I needed more to fill this void I had. I mean I had everything a loving partner of 15 years, house and good job butttt more was better. Who would represent me later in life. As we would get older family would mean more. We had partied, traveled etc. but I was over it all. I hoped immediately by going to my gyn to ask Where do same sex folks when they want to start a family. She promptly referred me to the only fertility clinic in Delaware. We had fun picking our first donor and I day dreamed how our son or daughter would look but after 4 IUI's the doctor did more testing and discovered both my tubes were blocked. Their protocol was changed after that happendend to me. We tried one more time after having laproscopic surgery without success. We were then instructed to move onto IVF. We also changed our donor. Wasn't a good match. Picked a new one and I was pregnant on the 3rd attempt. Had a handsome baby boy that has over flowed our hearts with love. We had him in 2008. Of course I never wanted to stop at just 1 so I started bugging my partner for us to try again. There were things we threw around that prevented for a while to try. My age was one - what if I had an unhealthy baby and we couldnt get the same donor. In August of 2010 we went on vacation and I had forgotten I had put my name on fairfax's waiting list for donor 1926. I received a call saying there were 3 vials and I had until the next day to make my mind up as there were others that were also on the waiting list. I almost had to pull over. We talked about it that night and met a lady at Sessame Place that by chance went through IVF was 39 and lived in New York where it is common for women to have children after age 35. It all was a sign. We went for it and got pregnant on the first IVF cycle. 3 embryo's were put in 1 was blastocyst and the other two were rated a 4 and 3 1/2. I had my next healthy baby at 41 and feel complete like I don't every need anything else in life. My parntner also is happy I pushed to have our second. I would like to know if anyone out there has used donor 1926 b/c it would be cool for my boys to have half siblings. Thanks for listening b/c it's a journey of over 3 years that I am proud of.

Congratulations! We have two and love it. I admit that I find it exhausting- and wonder if I might have had more energy if we had done this 10 years ago. I had the first at age 35 and the second 2.5 yrs later. We had "another life" before kids. Still, we've been together 18yrs and our son is 5, so these are big chapters in our lives/relationship. Wow! What a ride!

We used 1926 for both of our daughters. Our oldest is going to be 7 and our youngest is almost 4 1/2. They are amazing little girls and we love them with all our heart. I often wonder if they'll want to know more about the donor and hope maybe someday he'll make himself known but learning about their half siblings is also an exciting thing to know as well! Congrats to you and your partner on having such a fulfilling family!

Oh my goodness. I can't believe it. I have tons of questions also. I try to separate the present from the future and try to plan ahead. I do think if the connections are going to happen it needs to happen when they are young so that siblings may track each other. If you wouldn't mind I'd like talk more about the kids. It's exciting. I also wish the donor would have given permission to contact him at 18 if they wanted to.

I know that it's been a long time but I have made some contact with others who have also used donor 1926. If it were at all possible I would like to share pictures and learn about your daughters personalities. My sons are now 7 and almost 5. My oldest is Shane he is very intelligent, blond hair, hazel eyes and a has a very slender build. He is into martial arts and now baseball. My youngest is Quinn. He is a brute with a big heart for people he loves. He too has blond curly hair with hazel eyes. He loves candy lol, all animals, sports and just started tee ball. They get along great. If you could share that would be great.
I know it's been along time but I am hopeful
