First IUI - Have Questions!!

GeminiJaiGeminiJai Senior Member Senior Member
Happy New Year, ladies!!

For those of you who are familiar with my story, you know that I'll be having my first IUI with my January cycle and I'm so excited!! I've been waiting over 3 months for this and can't believe the time is already here! I was going to purchase my first 2 vials early this morning but stopped myself because I wanted to make sure I was going the best route, so now I need your help:

1. How many of you chose to join Club Fairfax? I ask this because the cost is $165 and, yes, it includes free shipping for your first order- but I live in the DC Metro area so my Local Courier shipping is only $95 - so that's not really a perk... So I'd like to know what type of specials Club members have seen in 2011 and how many of you did enough IUIs to take advantage of the "6th free vial" member perk? I know Fairfax already has a Pregnancy Pledge for clients who are not Club Fairfax Members (5th vial is free after 4 failed attempts), so I'm wondering who has actually reaped the benefit of ALSO getting their 6th vial free, thanks to their Club membership??

2. If you ARE a member of Club Fairfax, would you mind telling me what the current promotion is for January (if there is one)? I missed out on the 10% that they gave for online ordering from 12/23-12/25 because I hadn't sent in my Terms of Use form, yet.

3. Also, I was curious about everyone's ages and the number of attempts until you were successful? I'm sorry if this question feels like I'm prying but I'm a 32y/o healthy woman so I'm trying to figure out what my chances are in comparison to other women who are going through the same thing/IUI.

Unfortunately, Fairfax isn't open until Tuesday so there's no one in the office this weekend to help me figure out the best path/options. I'm just trying to make the best decision for me financially.

Thank you!!
Jaime

    Jamie,
I joined club fairfax but only because I live in ohio and the free shipping was a perk. you get to see new donors before everyone else. After joining Club Fairfax, I got pregnant after the next iui so have not seen any other benefits.

I am 37 yrs old with one ovary and it took 4 iui attempts.

Good luck in your firts attempt! Sending lots of baby dust.

    Robin

I joined and it pays for itself in one month if you have to have vials shipped.
My partner is 37 and it took her three attempts before she got pregnant.

Thanks, Janet! I actually did wind up joining Club Fairfax on 1/5, ordered 2 vials from my donor, and will be having my 1st IUI on 1/17 (tentatively). YAY! :)

I will be 30 this year. My mother was in her thirties when she was diagnosed with breast cancer so with this in mind I went forward with pursing this step in my life. I did not want to be biologically childless if I wound up following in my mothers medical footsteps. My daughter was born last May and I went thru the IUI process. It took me three tries but the third time was a charm! I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. I did not join (live in Md). I was becoming increasingly anxious as the first two months passed without success; I work in the healthcare field and see patients with children each day. It was difficult at times to drive home from work. I ended up taking a couple of months off before resuming to gather my thoughts and when I resumed - success! It was the most exciting and enjoyable day of my life to learn I was pregnant. I actually took a pregnancy test at work then called my doctor at the fertility center immediately after and went right to the lab after work to have blood work drawn for official confirmation. Regardless of you situation or reasons for exploring this option, you will be suprised to find how supportive people are - and how excited they will be for you!

EES- Congratulations on your little one and thank you for sharing your story! I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure in September, which is why I've chosen to go this route. It took a lot of soul searching for me to come to this decision but I now know, without a doubt, that this is the right path for me :)

Hi! I know this is a little bit late of a reply, but I just read your post. Hopefully, by now, you already know the results of your procedure. And I, like you, had tons of questions when I went through this last year. My husband and I tried for 3 years (unsuccessfully) to get pregnant. After many doctor's visits, we finally figured out that my husband has primary hypogonadism, which basically renders him infertile. I'm 29 and pretty healthy. After lots of prayer and deliberation, and one wonderful doctor's suggestion, we decided to try IUI with donor sperm. I took 5 days of Clomid and had an IUI on day 11 and 12 of my cycle. It was a success! Our precious baby girl is now 11 1/2 weeks old and perfect! We are so happy with our decision to use a sperm donor, and surprisingly, she actually looks a little like my husband. We plan to use the same donor in a couple years for baby #2. Good luck to you!!

Thank you for sharing your story, BabyMakes3! So glad everything worked out so well for you :)

Unfortunately, my first IUI resulted in a "chemical pregnancy" (hate that term), so now I'm in process of IUI #2. I'm on CD8 and using 100mg of Clomid this time (I did 50mg last time). I'll have blood work and a sono 2/12, will hopefully trigger the same night and have my IUI on either 2/13 or 2/14.

Yuck, I don't like those stupid terms either! Good luck to you!! I'll be praying that this one works!
