Hi. After struggling with choosing a donor, I finally realized that 2964 seemed to keep calling me back. I just ordered 4 vials!! I was a little nervous when I saw how tall his immediate family is since most of my family is short. I always date tall guys, but his dad is 6'7", his brother 6'10"!!! and his sister 6'1". I chose not to let it deter me, since I loved most other attributes. I do see that a child by this donor was conceived in Brooklyn, NY, which is not too far from me, (I'm on Western Long Island, not far from Queens) and this scares me a little. It is great to know, on the other hand, that there have been successful pregnancies, especially since I have started this journey so late. (I just turned 44!!). I hope all is going well...congrats!

    Hi Evieg22!
How exciting that you're getting ready to start your journey! We just had our 3rd IUI with 2964 and our on our 2ww. We are very hopeful this time.
I didn't realize 2964 had such height in his immediate family. Maybe we'll have a couple of basketball players! Good luck to you!

    Hi Patti,
Sorry I've taken so long to reply. Have been going through a whirlwind of fertility stuff. To answer your question: For each donor, there are options you can order...one of these options is the personal profile. It has many details of physical characteristics, careers, etc. of the donor, and his family. You can also hear an audio interview (about 30 min. long) with the donors. I joined "club fairfax" where you pay a flat fee, and you have access to all, except for lifetime photos of course, which are $80!!! I found joining beneficial since I wanted as much detail as I could, even though I spent a lot of $. I found out three weeks ago that I am pregnant after my first IUI, and 2964 is the donor.
Did you make a decision? Good luck!

I have seen his lifetime photos. He is not bad looking, was cute as a kid and then went through an awkward stage but didn't we all. I have a little boy by this donor born January of this year. Good luck to everyone trying!!! I also became pregnant after only one IUI. He apparently has great sperm quality!!!

I'm not sure if this was directed at me or not but I will answer. I am also doing this alone. I did get pregnant on my first IUI. I used femara and ovidrel as well. I was 37 when I got pregnant and 38 at delivery. Test wise all the routine blood work, hormones etc... Also a HSG to check my ovaries.

Wow that's great- they didn't prescribe those drugs for me so I'm not sure which are similar to gonal-menaper ect
I have a high fsh number and amh number so acording to them I have a snowballs chance in hell.
  • robinrobin Senior Member Senior Member
It depends on what your fsh levels are. At the beginning my fsh levels were around 8 which was a good number after a few months and no response to the injections they checked again and my levels were at 16, above where they wanted them. My doctor told me that he has gotten woman pregnant with their own eggs with levela as high as 23. He did mention using donor eggs, and you don't even want to know the cost of that! I told him I wanted to try first myself. He said that was fine, we would have to try each month, there would be months that I would respond to the injections and months that I wouldn't, he said that was to be expected. If I had had to pay for the injections not sure how I would have. I have great insurance and the injections were covered bc I had to give myself a vial each night and that is pricey. after 4 more months of trying, 2 months where I did not respond and 2 months where I did I became pregnant and gave birth at the end of June to a beautiful baby boy. I only ever got one follicle and only have 1 ovary. It is possible but it may take longer and may be more costly especially if you have to pay for it all out of pocket. If you want to try though I say go for it!

you can PM me if you have any questions.

    Baby dust!
    Robin

Have you considered IVF rather than IUI. With high numbers and even your doctor telling you it is unlikely, why waste the time? I did 11 IUIs and finally got pregnant on my 2nd IVF. I'm 40, will be 41 at delivery in March 2013 and had perfect numbers.

I totally agree with Anne's advice to skip the IUI route. Many of us that had excellent bloodwork didn't have success until we tried more the approach with a higher success rate...IVF. I'm not saying that IVF is guaranteed because it also can fail but there may be leftover embryos to use for a frozen transfer. The woman that posted her success on her first IUI was THIRTY-SEVEN and fast forward 7 years to your age of 44 and there's a world of difference in fertility especially with your bloodwork numbers. I had my first IUI at 40 years old and used medications to be aggressive but even after very good responses to medications all 7 IUI's didn't work. This was even with so-called "ovaries of a 20 something year old" (doctors words not mine). So try to save up your money, because you don't have time to waste on something that has a low success rate for woman over 40 (less than 15%)

Not to sound harsh but it's something that we've all experienced and feel like we have a clearer view looking from the outside in. Hindsight seems to be crystal clear. Of course only you can do what's right for your and your situation. Just be informed about the process and be an informed consumer. I hope that you have success on this challenging journey. Good luck and be well...
