Donors who signed contracts as anonymous donors with Fairfax Cryobank will remain anonymous. However, we have started private forums that allow our clients to connect with half siblings.

I thought that a request can be made to donors by a child once they turn 18? I understand that the donor can choose how much, if any, contact will be had, but I would just like to confirm that the donor will be contacted and asked either way if their offspring request it at that time.

Only certain donors are "ID Option Donors" who must sign a special consent. Here is more information about the ID Option program: http://www.fairfaxcryobank.com/IDConsentDonor.shtml.

This is a relatively new program and most donors are anonymous donors. These donors will remain anonymous, even when the children turn 18, because of the consent that was signed at the time of their participation.

I am not sure when you started the "ID Options" designation, but when I used your services in 2005 the donors were listed on your website as either an "A" donor for a donor that wanted to stay anonymous or an "O" donor for a donor open to (maybe) being contacted when their offspring turned 18. I purposely chose an "O" donor to keep the option open. Is that what you are referring to as an "ID Options" Donor (those donors who had an O as their designation)?

Since this is a new program, the donors who did not have the option to be contacted once the chid is 18, could they now choose to be contacted and have the option ?

Fairfax Cryobank displays donors who are in the ID Options program as "ID Options" on our catalog. If you have any questions about the status of your particular donor, please contact our wonderful client services staff at 1-800-338-8407.

Fairfax Cryobank understands that many of our clients would like the opportunity to know more about their donors. However, anonymous donors from Fairfax Cryobank will always remain anonymous based on the agreements and contracts that were in place when a donor donated at the Cryobank. It would not be ethical for us to compromise the agreements we made with all of the people involved from the donor to the recipient. Our privacy policy explains this in detail.
