At Home Insemination vs MD office

my partner & I are just starting this journey, however, we had our first visit with a fertility specialist this week & found out that her insurance has no coverage for fertility or maternity visits. my insurance doesn't allow same-sex partner coverage. we're trying to find alternatives for some coverage. but, in the meantime - how successful are people who try in home insemination vs. with a doctor? we were thinking of giving it a couple of tries at home first but we are so new to this whole process that we just aren't sure what steps to take!

Are you sure your insurance won't cover any of it? Mine wouldn't cover the actual insimination but did cover the blood tests and ultrasounds.

how is is that her insurance wont cover maternity visits...i never heard of a thing...what state to do you live in? what insurance may i ask do you have?

My insurance doesn't cover anything until I am pregnant. After that it's normal coverage, but until then we are paying everything out of pocket. Luckly I am a hospital worker so anything I have done at my hospital is covered no matter what. That only comes in to play with blood work for now.

We live in GA & her insurance is a Cigna Open Access plan through her employer. She's a teacher. Obviously, she didn't read the fine print during the open season to switch to a different provider before we moved along in this process. Based on this coverage, it specifically excludes charges for fertility, as well as normal pregnancy or maternity care. This is the PDF with the plan: http://www.cigna.com/assets/docs/georgi ... 22144c.pdf
The MD's office also verified that there is no coverage for testing or infertility treatment. My plan has coverage for testing, but not treatment.
Has anyone had success trying this at home? -
A couple friend of ours did try at home. We were on the same week. I did it at a clinic, she did it at home. She was heartbroken when she got pregnant and we didn't. She is one of my closest friends and I really had to assure her that it was ok. We were happy for them and still are. But we also have two couple friends that got pregnant the first shot at a clinic. So I think either way is just as good.

My partner and I tried at home and in the doctor's office. In the end we were successful doing it at home. I recommend at least trying a couple of times.

This question was posted quite a while ago, but I am just now getting on this forum. We had our OB do an IUI in the office, and it only cost $100 because it was a quick process. We have insurance that covers maternity but it only stated once she was pregnant. All the bloodwork and visits were up to us to pay. We did our own cycle monitoring at home, had bloodwork done once to check her horomones (she's 35), and the 2nd IUI took. She is due on 11-11! It was well worth paying our OB $100 to do the IUI. An infertility specialist would have been a lot more.
