sine4mesine4me Senior Member Senior Member
Good Morning!

So i just had my 3rd IUI this morning. I had 5 follicles that looked ready this time around, really hoping the clomid and gonal-f did their job this time and i get my BFP in 2 weeks!

Thanks Howdy! The 2WW is the worst! you would think with all the technology they have these days they could tell before 2 weeks lol :) Oh well, now to just keep busy until then :)

Best of luck to you too :)

Thanks Regan, it's actually 12 days, i'm able to test Tuesday morning. Been doing good, but the whole tww sucks! I'm not a patient person and this waiting is just the worst lol! At least the waiting will be over in a day and a half now :)

Hopefully i'll have some good news Tuesday morning :)

Well, 3rd attempt was a BFN too. this sucks.

sine4me- I'm so sorry to hear about your BFN :( I'm just curious- because I know you said you used a combination of Clomid and Gonal-F this last time... Were you given a trigger shot for any of your 3 IUI attempts? Or have you just been charting your ovulation/temperature?

Ugh, so sorry about your BFN.
Wish I had more insight or hopeful words to say, other than I've been there, and I hope your journey continues!
Keep up the hope... Maybe a different protocol?

    Thanks guys.

I did have a trigger shot for the past 3 IUI's. This last IUI was 100mg of clomid and 75mg of the gonal f, then the trigger shot. Not sure why it's not working, maybe just timing is off? The first 2 times i had 4 follies, this time 5...i don't understand why it's not working. The sperm has been really good or great counts so i'm not sure where its failing.

I spoke with the Dr's office today. Not sure the protocol will change much since I am producing good size follicles and plenty of them. May modify the FSH this time to get a little bigger more mature follies, but other than that, unless I go to IVF, not much will change i don't think.

It's hard to keep up with everyone's stories, and I didn't want to ask a lot of questions if you weren't sure about moving forward, but did you have a hsg to make sure your tubes were blocked? I know my IUI's failed because it had been 8 years since my previous blood work and I didn't have an hsg to determine that my tubes were in fact, blocked. So I wasted 8 months before going on to IVF (and to a different clinic). Of course, a lot of people seem to have seen knowledgeable doctors who did this kind oftest a lot earlier in their journeys, my doctor had actually just looked at me, said your young, your fine, go forth and fertilize! Little did I know the journey I was beginning...
I'm glad to hear you talk about your next try, and that you aren't giving up! Do you have to take time off between cycles or go right back this month?
Here's hoping for a positive next time, and some peaceful days between without rages of hormones!
    Baby dust...

    Thanks Regan!

Yes, I did all of my testing last summer before going on this journey to make sure that I would be able to since I have a history of endometriosis. We did ultrasounds, lab work for everything under the sun and the HSG. Everything came back that I should have no issues, so most likely it's just a numbers game i guess. I am taking this cycle off, but will be back at it the middle of next month to begin the next round of drugs.
Thanks and the best of luck and lots of sticky baby dust to you too!!

    Hi Sine4me
I'm very sorry about your BFN. I know how frustrating it can be. I had similar results, always good responses to the medications. I never understood how I can have five follies and nothing would take!?! Personally I would look towards IVF at this point. I have little faith in IUIs after multiple attempts especially with a good follicle response. There are women on here that have had success with 1-2 follicles after a few tries so it really just doesn't make sense. But its truly out of our control. It's ultimately your choice but I'm just speaking from my experience after six or seven IUIs that didn't work despite high sperm counts and 5-6 mature follies.

Good luck with the next step on your journey.

    Moe,

I understand what you're saying, but the cost of IVF is ridiculous. My insurance covers none of this for me, so covering a couple thousand each attempt is much easier (not that its THAT much easier) than coming up with $15K for one cycle of IVF that isn't even guaranteed to work the first time. If money wasn't an issue, then I probably would go to that.

Thanks again, for the feedback, I do appreciate it and good luck with your journey as well! :)

I'm right there with you Sine4me. I have absolutely zero fertility coverage as well and have spent about 15K on IUI's and meds over the past 12 plus months. It's all out of pocket and I'm single. It's been a crazy expensive journey. All my tests are normal and I'm healthy so I figured it would work the first time and I certainly thought the third time was a charm.

My fertility center offered one IVF cycle at a discounted rate of $7700 and I was able to get some donated meds along the way. So my moment of clarity was when I realized that I spent a similar amount on the 3-4 IUI's plus meds, plus donor sperm and those were one shot deals. With the IVF atleast you can potentially get frozen embryos for later.

Looking back I just wish that after IUI #3 I took months off to save for the IVF instead of wasting money on an additional 3 IUI's that didn't work although I had 4-5 follies and excellent sperm counts.

But 15K would be a dealbreaker for me as well. Wishing you tons of luck for your next cycle. Be encouraged and I hope that you have success.

    All the best!
    Moe
