Age of frozen sperm?

Well, here I am analyzing and trying to figure out exactly why I'm not pregnant yet, and if I find out why, I just know I can fix it! In looking at all possible "issues", an interesting question has come up. The frozen sperm I had shipped to the clinic was frozen a long time ago (I think it said 1999, truly!) I know it's been on ice, and had post thaw "life" and movements that were adequate, but has anyone ever heard of shelf life times?

The BEST part in questioning this, and I don't see how the time sperm has been frozen could have any impact on my success, but JUST IN CASE, I started looking at other donors, and our first pick now has availability. A silver lining? So even if the shelf life is ok, maybe just switching donors is going to give me that positive I keep hoping for! Here's to IVF#4...

And don't go running to your doctor's office to look for expiration dates! I am pretty sure it's not like milk...

    Regan,

It is interesting that you mention this topic. I too, was curious if a shelf life exists for frozen sperm since I have undergone two rounds of injectable IUI's with donor sperm that I've had in storage for approximately 10 years and still haven't managed to get pregnant. But I asked my RE about this and she assured me that it was fine and that there really isn't an expiration date for frozen semen, so I plan to keep trying with my chosen donor. Goodness knows I've paid for storage long enough-it'd be a dream come true to finally get a BFP out of this! I'll be praying for your BFP for this 4th IVF cycle!!! Sending lots of baby dust your way! :)
