Need advice

k&bk&b Senior Member Senior Member
I have had 5 IUIs, all unsuccessful. My RE cannot find a single reason that I have not gotten pregnant, and is suggesting that I switch donors. I have thought it over, and am fine with that, and am currently trying to pick between 2 donors. The problem lies with my husband's feeling on all of this. He wants me to break for the summer so we can "enjoy our summer". This breaks my heart. I don't want to put this off. I understand what he means...the meds are hard on me, I swell like a puffer fish for 3 weeks and refuse to be in a swim suit, and the money...the money this has cost is unbelievable. I just don't know what to do. Any sound advice would be appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting pregnant. I have been dealing with this for about a year at this point. It seems like people either get it quickly or it takes a while. I took a month off in octoberand it was so helpful for me. We went to visit friends that lived out of town. I drank and ate good food and lived my life. I felt like myself again when that month was over. I can't imagine taking more than that one month off. I personally couldn't enjoy my summer with infertility in the back of my head. A month or two might do you good. Why don't you compromise with your hubby take July and August off. If you can do another two or three months of trying
if I can help in anyway I am here

I'm sorry to hear your troubles. I'm finally moving onto IVF after 10 IUIs and one miscarriage. It sucks!

I think Charlotte's idea of a compromise is a good one. Take one month off, maybe two.

    Good luck!

Thank you both so much. I talked (ok, bawled) with my hubby last night and we are going to switch donors and try again for a couple more months, then go from there. I pray that the donor switch will do the trick for me. I have ordered 2 sets of lifetime photos and am just waiting to hear back from Fairfax. Much love to you all!

Have you considered switching doctors as well? If the doctor can't pinpoint a reason you're not getting pregnant, maybe someone else could.

Yes, we are going to switch for the next IUI. We were using 2976 and I am hoping that he was just not meant to match with us. I have high hopes for the next donor! That is exactly what my RE suggested today.
