CMV Negative Selections and your other search criteria

sibemomsibemom Member Member
Looking to chat w/ other folks focusing on CMV- donors. How goes your selection process? I've got to admit I'm not getting that quick "bite" that I felt like I had for some of the positive donors before I learned I needed to narrow my search.

What else do YOU reduce your search results by? Does your donor have to be a certain height? Have certain eye color? Does voice matter to you? Have you gotten turned off from a donor that seemed great after seeing a photo? I am always curious what other people see important in their selection/quest.

We needed CMV neg as well. Some other things we looked at: medical history, of course was also very important. We preferred someone in a creative field of some sort since I am an art teacher and my partner a writer. It was important to my partner that he not be too tall because she's short as is her family, so we narrowed it down to under 6'1". We also preferred an ID Options donor, although we didn't want to see a picture beforehand. Looks aren't that important to us... (plus my partner who would be carrying is cute enough for the both of them, IMO). ;) We figured if it were a situation of meeting someone in rl, personality would be more important then looks, so it shouldn't really matter in this instance either. We didn't want to second guess an otherwise perfect choice on something so shallow as what he looked like.

They donor we ultimately chose fit all our criteria. ID Options, under 6', green eyes like me... although that wasn't a criteria, just a bonus, nothing too terrible in the medical history, and an Arts degree (plus he can sing... I hope the baby gets that talent!! Lord knows I can't sing!). Also, his fav animal was a cat, and we have 5, so we figured he probably wasn't allergic to them if they are his favorite... so hopefully the child won't have allergies to cats (crossing fingers on that one!!!!).

Now that she is 27 weeks pregnant we are going to go ahead and order the pictures of our donor... more out of curiosity, and to have in case the child ever wants to know what his/her bio father looks like.

Hi had similar criteria as Janet.

This is the information on how I filtered. It was based on what features run in my family
    -negative CMV
    -light colored eyes
    -blond, brown or auburn hair
    -taller than 6'
    -ID option donor

From these results, i chose based on their ancestral history, their medical history and their personal summary. I wanted someone that had the same or similar ancestry as me. Their medical history was important. Their personal summary was important to see what their responses were to the questions and whether family was important, if they were intelligent, compassionate and other aspects.

I also chose to get pictures so that my child will know what he looks like.

    Hope that helps.

CMV neg is #1 for me
Then I search on height (I want 6' or over since I'm 5'10" and every guy in my family is over 6')
I would like light coloring (I'm a blue-eyed redhead and everyone in my family has blue or green eyes and fair coloring) - but this is less important
Medical history is the deciding factor and number 2 reason after CMV why I've rejected most donors

Ok, I've narrowed it to 4... ends up 2 are IUI avail and 2 are IUI "Call". My top 2 are one of each. While I was a bit frustrated to need to start my search anew, I did end up with one 'quality' that I had originally wanted and passed on for other more important things - that is ID options!

Funny thing is I do tend to prefer taller donors as I would prefer a taller date/SO. Turns out my first selection ended up being 2994 who is 6'5" and my second choice is 2757, who is only 5'9" (one of the shorter CMV- donors). I admit that some health issues in the females on 2757 dad's side give me pause, but if what we know about cancers effecting women are moreso driven by a history on your mom's side I'm hoping that is not as large of a concern. My biggest worries on 2994 is how big that baby could be (laugh) and a worry of a cleft chin. Truly small concerns, right?

Hi Sibemom.... Did you already purchase IUI vials for donor 2994? I'm asking because I have 4 unused vials of his that I am not going to use and would really love someone to take them, as opposed to me discarding them. Unfortunately, I have decided to not go through with the procedure. He is a perfect donor, though, isn't he? :D

I paid $2,875 for the four and would be happy to do a "transfer of purchase" via Fairfax if you're interested. At a discount, of course. Please let me know. Thanks!

I usually just make a purchase for immediate shipping - so I am not incurring a storage cost fee.

Fairfax Cryobank does allow transfer of ownerships of donor semen samples that have been stored off-site if the vial(s) are first returned to the Cryobank. Once the vial(s) are transferred back to the Cryobank, they will go into storage under the current owners name. The current owner would sign and have notarized the form FFX Transfer of Ownership of Stored Donor Specimens. The recipient of the transferred donor specimens will have to complete the form FFX Recipient’s Acceptance of Ownership of Stored Donor Specimens as well as Storage and Billing paperwork.

All of the aforementioned paperwork will be sent to both parties and all forms will need to be sent back to the Cryobank together. So, one client will need to send their forms to the other client to be returned in one package back to the Cryobank for processing.

Anyone interested in participating in a transfer of ownership can call the Cryobank for additional details/discussion at 800-338-8407.
