IUI Cycles at 40

table4onetable4one Junior Member Junior Member
I've had 4 unsuccessful IUI cycles (2 natural and 2 medicated w/ Chlomid & trigger). For all cycles, my numbers were right on spot, and Doctor's say I'm a great responder to the meds--I had 6 mature follicles before triggering, but yet no success. I read the stats that say IUI at 40 and older is pretty much a waste of time, but it's hard for me to believe since my numbers are so good, and everything is open and ready for business. I use donor sperm and those counts have been excellent as well. Just wondering if IUI at 40 is worth it.

I just want to share my experience. I am by no means saying what happened to me is the same as with you. I just really want o share

I did 11 iuis from march of this past year. I did some with no meds, some with Clomid and some with triggers and injectables. My sperm counts were usually great. Especially my last few on injectables. My follicle counts were also always good. I have been pregnant before in my 20s. None of the iuis worked. I we t through such terrible a stresses because of this. I was always scared of ivf because of the costs. I also didn't want to have to be one of the women that needed it. I wanted god to just let me get Pregnant the easy way. Well I found out today I am Pregnant after my first attempt at ivf. I wish my fears hadn't controlled me The last 7 tries. I spent I think about 25,000 on the 11 rounds of iuis with meds and sperm (I have no coverage). An average ivf cycle is 12000 I think. Just a food for thought

I started IUIs at 39. I got pregnant on round 4 with no meds but lost the pregnancy. I did 6 more with meds and no luck. I just did my first ( and prayerfully only) IVF transfer today. I'm now age 40.

I too like Anne started IUIs at age 39. I looked good on paper and all systems were a go. I got pregnant on IUI #3 with injectibles but lost it at 8 weeks. I did 3 more after that with no luck (even had 6 follies one cycle). I have now moved on to IVF and have had my retrieval and will be doing a frozen transfer next month. Going through the retrieval process I found out what I had suspected all along which was that I had an egg quality issue. The only way to find this out is to do IVF because they can actually pull the eggs out and look at them under their microscope so they they can check their shape for any abnormalities and then fertilize them with ICSI to see if they fertilize. Hindsight is 20/20 but I definitely would have went the IVF route from the begininng but everything looked good enough on paper that I gave IUI a chance. I say all of this to say that I wouldn't waste a lot of time and money on IUIs. Yes it can definitely happen but if you just read through the number of posts for those of us on these boards near & over 40 you'll see that most of us are on the IVF train now and are not looking back!

Feel free to send me a PM if you have other questions and best of luck to you!

I did an iui at 41 and 11 months and got pregnant. Lost the baby. I did a second iui at 42 and 5 months and gave birth to my son when I was 43 and 1 month old.

I got pregnant on each iui - 3 follicles.

A highschool friend the same age got pregnant at 41 on first iui and pregnant at 42 on 2nd iui. She has 2 beautiful kids. Another highschool friend got pregnant on her 3rd iui at 41 and 10 months. She has a beautiful 2.5 year old daughter.

I hear how unlikely it is... but that was not what I or my 2 good high school friends experienced.... we know we were very blessed though.
