IVF Round 2

TrishlettesTrishlettes Junior Member Junior Member
Im New to this forum. I switched RE's after my first failed IVF and failed FET. Now new RE wont use NW Cryobank so here I am.
Im going to be 41 on Mothers Day. Ive been at this TTC stuff for 3 years. Many IUIs, two losses and one failed IVF and FET under my belt. Getting old sucks.
All along my numbers have been good. My first IVF we got ten eggs, all mature, all fertilized. Two transferred and four frozen. Others didnt make the cut to freeze. Out of my four frosties only one survived. I later found out my clinic isnt up on the new techniques to freeze. Not saying it would have but It could have made a difference,

Gearing up for round two with Shady Grove. FSH bumped up from 6.9 to 10.4  eeek, estradiol 20 LH and prolactin both fine. AMH is pending and Im afraid. I had 13 antrals up from just 6 on my prevous cycle. So my doctor who isnt exactly warm and fuzzy like my old RE told me I have a 20% chance at a take home baby. Im not sure if I should be hopeful or depressed. He seems to know what he is doing tho and SG does THOUSANDS of cycles every year. Its open 365 so Im not on someone elses schedule.

SG offers a multi cycle discount and Ive applied for the financial assistance. I should qualify for about 30% discount on treatments. My insurance covers diagnostics but Maryland only mandates MARRIED couples get the benefit of IVF coverage. Even tho I pay my premiums just like everyone else I cant access that benefit because I am single. Its bull sh#t.
SO if I pay for one cycle it will be about 8k. Does not include FET which is an additional 3k. Multi cycle is 12k which includes two fresh cycles and all the FETs that I have embies for but if I get lucky on the first round I dont get a refund for the excess that I paid. I also would really have no reserves left for adoption if it came to that.

Just out of curiosity WWYD? :?:

Honestly not sure what I would do. I would say that if I did IVF I would pay for the multiple IVF's the payment just seems better. My other thought would be that if I paid that much, it would probably work the first time so I would be out the extra money, just how my crazy thoughts so I would probably just go for the ivf. The fsh level at 10.4 isn't that bad. I do know they want it under ten which in the beginning mine was and then it went up to 16. My RE said that he has gotten women prgnant with their own eggs with fsh as high as 23. I am one of those women. I used iui but have a low ovarian reserve and only ever got 1 follicle even on high doses of injections. You can sill adopt if all else fails, you just may have to go with an older child through cps.

Good luck in your journey! lots of baby dust. OH and some would say my doc had a rough bedside manner but I just thought he was brutally honest and as I can be sarcastic we got along famously. When I didn't produce a follie on my first round of injections I looked at him and said WTF! exactly like that. He laughed and said, I have no idea, we need to do more tests. When we went over the results he was honest and mentioned donor egg. He also told me that he would help me do what I wanted. When he told me that I may only produce a follicle every other month, I told him I wanted to go back to clomid. He said no you will have a better result with the injections. I started to cry, he asked what the tears were for bc we had discussed this and you know what he was right! I told him I was just scared. At that point he said we will just have to see what happens each month and move on from there. after 3 more cycles I got my bfp.

I now love my RE and will take my little boy to see him when he is born.

    Hi welcome to the forum!
I did several cycles of IUI's with Shady Grove Fertility. I go to the GBMC Towson office but have been to various ones from N. Va to D.C. All of my baseline tests are that of 20-something year old ovaries (I started this when I turned 40) There was absolutely no reason that IUI's shouldn't work but they didn't. Soon I'll be 42 at the end of the month. I opted for my last chance and broke the bank to do one round of IVF with donor sperm. I didn't see the need or have the money to do the multi cycle IVF's because it was going to work the first go round. Well it did work but ended very early with a chemical pregnancy. I still have 4 frozen embryos but that means another $4000 for storage plus the FET (I qualify for the 30% global discount) which is planned in three weeks. I wasn't given the harsh talk about success rates for women our age but my doctor mentioned excellent success with donor eggs. I certainly don't have ANY money for that!!!! So I took the roll of the dice with my eggs. So the multi cycle discount would have been essentially the same money that I've paid just not in one significant chunk and limited options. I do know that I won't go through a fresh cycle again and will just have to hope the FET works.

What Shady Grove to you go to? Where were your previous cycles?

    Good luck and again welcome!!

I think I've decided one and done. Moving on to adoption. I had my first IVF at the Maryland fertility center. Then only one of my embies survived thaw (4) as they use the old slow freeze. That's why I'm at SG. Second and final IVF . They have an excellent rep and fantastic technology. I'm at Columbia now. ER will be Rockville. 8k due on the 20th. Here we go!
