PatientlyWaiting's Story (Timing IUI's)

Hello All - I just wanted to share my story and hopefully get some feedback as well. First all I wish you all WELL and much Success in your TTC journey. I am 34 and my partner is 32. We started our process for TTC in September 2011. We had our first IUI in November 2011 and it was unsuccessful the sperm count was low in the donor sample. We got our money back and tried again with the same donor and that was in January 2012 it was also unsuccessful the Doctor triggered me on CD # 9 and after that I had two periods within 3 days of each other for 4 to 5 days long. It was unexplained. We tried again March 2012 unsuccessful. Then we did another one in April 2012 and changed our donor and cryobank still unsuccessful. The doctor put me on gonal-f, just to help with maturing my eggs and balance my hormones. My body responded wonderfully. Then we did our 5th IUI, I was so excited with two mature focilies I just knew we were going to get a BFP. Again unsuccessful. So we have decided to get a second opinion and go to a different doctor. Our previous IUI's were times with the trigger shot 7pm the day before the IUI. The very next day the IUI was done at about 2pm. We have researched and many women seem to trigger on at 7pm and get the IUI done about 36 to 48 hours later. I notice they seem to get pregnant.

If any one could please share your stories on timing the IUI's it would great for us. We are praying that the IUI's work. If not we have decided to look into known donors. Maybe it could be that the sperm is dying too soon because it's frozen? I am not sure ?

There are so many questions. So we just plan and re-plan.. and re-plan. We will not give up we are patiently waiting.

Take Care Ladies

I will tell you my story, but we don't know how it will turn out for another week and a half! To start off, I have a 28 day cycle and this was the first month I have done Clomid (50mg). I had my second sonogram on CD10 and had two mature follicles on the left side (17 & 25), my doctor said that if I didn't get a positive OPK on CD11, to then do the Ovidrel (250mg) trigger shot by 5pm the same day (CD11). I decided to do back to back IUI's this time to just increase my odds on the timing. They went ahead and scheduled my first IUI for the following day (CD12) at 12:45 (16.4 million spermies!!) and then the next day (CD13) at 10:30 (22 million spermies!!!). I had told my RE that I always get a postive on CD13 or CD14, but she seemed to think that I was ready and I "guess" that the trigger shot does make you ovulate within 12-42 hrs per my nurse, so I "should" have been fine. We shall see by 6-25 if it worked. If I could afford it, I would have an IUI every day from CD10-CD15 just to be sure (I'm a control freak)! I am definitely ready to get off of the fertility train!!

A funny side note - Just a little proof that God is listening to my prayers; I was driving home yesterday and was praying that I would be pregnant this time around and that my husband was already at home (which he never is) and would take the dogs outside for me because I am wiped out from this trigger shot. Not 5 seconds later, my husband called and asked if I was on my way and that he was already outside with the dogs! I immediately said a little thank you to God and said that I know He is listening to me!

I did 4 iui's and would trigger and then 24 hours later go into the docs for the procedure. I got my BFP on the 4th iui with just one follicle. I have a low ovarian reserve and even on a really high dose of gonal f only got 1 follicle. For the last iui, I had always just felt that the timing was off so I asked to do a back to back iui. That time was successful! Was it bc of the back to back? I don't know.... My doc was never the one to do the procedure and his associates always did them this last time he actually did my iui on the first day... was that the reason? I have no idea! I know I'm a little superstitious. Honestly I think it happened when it did for a reason. I will deliver in the next 16 days and know that it happened when it was supposed to.... all the stars aligned and have made it so I could finish a semester of my internship and get an interim counselor at work so I don't have to worry. Had it happened at another time, these things wouldn't have happened. If you are concerned about timing talk to the doc, if possible do a back to back. My doc listened to me and did what I wanted.

Good luck and lots of baby dust.

    Robin
