So I was given the okay by Maternal Fetal Medicine to go ahead with the IUI plans!! :o) I'm not going to start trying until January probably, but they asked that I start taking the prenatal vitamins now. I bought Centrum Specialist Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement that has a DHA supplement and it says its a complete multivitamin "prenatal." It has two pills one is a softgel pill that contains fish oil concentrate, gelatin, glycerin and purified water. I can not swakllow this pill without choking on it! Everytime i try to take it the pill gets very stuck in my throat! The other pill that comes with this is much larger and i can swallow that one just fine! its just this softgel one that i have a real hard time with. Are all prental vitamins like this? Does anyone have any suggestions??

At least I now know I am not the only one who had this problem! I got a prenatal vitamin perscript. from my dr. and then was told to get the additional pill that had the DHA in it....my pharmacist gave me a box of them to take. I can't take them either....they would get stuck everytime. The regular prenatal is fine, even though it's bigger.....so what ended up happening was that when I went to get my refill, my prenatal now has the DHA in it...it's a pretty big pill, but it's a gel capsule and real long and slender...I can take this one just fine....

So, is there any way they can give you a perscript. with the DHA in it? Mine is called, "Triveen-PRx RNF capsules".

I use "B-Nexa" brand prenatals which have 40mg Vitamin B6, 1.2mg Folic Acid, 124.1mg Calcium and 100mg Ginger root powder extract... They're about half the size of my previous prenatals and come in a tablet form, so they don't get stuck in your throat like many of the softgels can. Plus, the addition of ginger is great because it's supposed to help with nausea (i.e. morning sickness).

I take Rainbow Light prenatals, i get them through whole foods. They're natural and I only have to take one a day and they're not huge pills. Like Jaime stated above, mine have ginger and a couple other herbs to prevent nausea. I also take a fish oil in addition to the prenatals.

I'm with sine4me, I also take Rainbow Light which is one a day and you can take them on an empty stomach. It has everything but a take additional supplements of Fish Oil with flax seed oil (no constipation here), extra calcium since we need more than the standard amount in prenatals, and a probiotic (again no constipation or heartburn) Plus a baby aspirin (helps with bloodflow which is often a cause of early m/c). So in the morning a take a handful of pills but I've been doing this for months and have gotten used to it.

Sometimes the Vitamin Shoppe has better prices than WholeFoods for Rainbow Light Prenatals.

I used Rainbow Light for the duration of my pregnancy and I'm still using them now while breastfeeding. They were easy to swallow and digest. Good luck.
