Baby After Gastric Bypass?

katm2gkatm2g Junior Member Junior Member
Hi Everyone! :)
I know it can be done, having a baby after having gastric bypass surgery, so long as you wait the recommended 18 months for your body to adjust, but I was wondering if any of you had real life experience and wouldn’t mind sharing with me your story? How did it go?
Thank you so much!
Kat

    Hi,

I had Gastric bypass in Feb of 2009 and got pregnant in Feb of 2012. We waited a full two years after my surgery because that is what my surgon had recommended. I would make certain that your body has adjusted and that all your vitamin levels are within the right levels before you try getting pregnant. I had no problem getting pregnant and actually got pregnant the first round of IUI. With your pregnancy I have a couple of recommendation. Make certain your OB has experiance taking care of post- gastric bypass OB patients, Take your vitamins, and DON'T do the the 28 week glucose tolerance test. It's a test to check for gestational diabeties and you take a very sweet drink with 30 gm of carbs in 15 mintues. I didn't think about it before I did this test and it made me sooo sick with dumping syndrom and I had never gotten dumping syndrom before. You can do a fast blood glucose test instead and save your tummy. Overall I don't think I had anything different with my pregnancy due to my gastric bypass. I just made certain to take my prenatal vitamins plus a b-complex vitamin daily. Good Luck!!
